CARSON CITY — Even in the height of summer, the Nevada Department of Transportation is looking ahead and preparing to keep state roads clear when winter snow flies. NDOT is hiring temporary highway maintenance workers to help keep winter roads clear, including snow plow and anti-icing operations and assisting in highway emergency response, among other duties.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Transportation is enhancing roadside parking restrictions on U.S. 50 south of Cave Rock. Beginning Wednesday through July 29, NDOT will install nearly 10 new “no parking” signs making un-permitted parking illegal on U.S. 50 roadside shoulders and median between Cave Rock and just south of Cave Rock State Park.

Between July 22 and August 4, 2019, Nevada’s law enforcement agencies throughout the state, including the Carson City Sheriff's Office, will be Joining Forces and citing distracted drivers.

Northern Nevada Development Authority on Friday announced its economic development service area has been expanded to include Mineral County. The Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development \has designated NNDA as the regional development authority (RDA) for the county, effective July 1, 2019. Mineral County joins Nevada’s Sierra Region that also includes Carson City, Douglas County, Lyon County and Storey County.

Law enforcement agencies statewide will be joining forces and focusing on distracted drivers from July 22 through August 4, 2019. The Nevada Highway Patrol will be working diligently to urge motorists to keep their eyes on the road and put away cell phones or other items that cause distractions.

To help students prepare for fall semester and to utilize the support available to them, Student Services at Western Nevada College will be open later on Wednesday nights in July and August.

First responders were called to a vehicle crash just before 4 p.m. on Saturday in the area of Highway 50 and Brown Streets.

One of the drivers suffered a possible head injury.

The Nevada Highway Patrol is partnering with the California Highway Patrol’s Valley Division and Golden Gate Divisions to participate in an “I-80 Challenge.” This effort aims to reduce speeding drivers along Interstate 80 from San Francisco, Calif. to the Nevada/Utah Stateline from Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at 6:01 p.m. through Sunday, July 7, at 11:59 p.m.

A 37-year-old Auburn, Calif. man and a 45-year-old Garden Valley, Calif. woman were arrested in the area of Roop and College early Friday morning for suspicion of possessing drugs, drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license, and driving with suspended registration.

CARSON CITY — Lane reductions will take place on U.S. 50 in Dayton Saturday, June 15 as the Nevada Department of Transportation installs pedestrian safety improvements.

Nevada Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies in the state participating in the Joining Forces program are urging pedestrians and drivers alike to be aware of each other at all times and share the road responsibly. From now through June 18, the Joining Forces law enforcement team will be issuing citations to both pedestrians and motorists who are violating traffic safety laws.

CARSON CITY — Roadway shoulder closures began this week on certain Interstate 580 Carson City Freeway ramps as precursor to a major Nevada Department of Transportation project to resurface and enhance the interstate.

Nevada’s law enforcement officers participating in the Joining Forces program will be working to keep the roads safe by watching for drivers exceeding the speed limit. This Joining Forces enforcement will take place from April 24th through May 8th, 2019.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office joined forces with the Nevada Highway Patrol between April 12 and April 22 to educate the motoring public on distracted driving. The primary emphasis was to focus on drivers not using hands-free devices while driving.
