Dozens of vendors are expected in celebration of Earth at the annual Earth Spirit Faire held this year at the Carson City Community Center this Saturday and Sunday, April 29 - 30. The faire runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center.

Holy moly, it’s going to be a busy weekend: busy and gorgeous out. A bowling tournament and the Comstock Shootout Soccer tournament have the hotels and motels busting at the seams. Celebrate Earth Day with Muscle Powered by making a small piece of Carson City that much cleaner; the trash meets at 8 a.m. and leaves you plenty of time to enjoy the day. Join Pioneer High School students and Mr. Paul Lorion at their second annual spring art show at the Brewery Arts Center this Friday, April 21, 2017, during an open reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Student work will include paintings, drawings and ceramic pieces that illustrate the creativity of the Pioneer Panther student body.

Have you ever had one of those weeks? Well, thank goodness it's Friday. Carson City will help you decompress and forget your troubles. The Carson Nugget is turning into quite the downtown hotspot with a different headlining comedian each Friday, in addition to live music in two places. The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) recognized and presented plaques to the top three winners of the NDOT Stormwater Program Kindergarten through fifth grade "Love NV Waters" drawing contest at the recent March 13 Transportation Board meeting in Carson City.

Silver City, Nevada - Silver City, a community located in Lyon County within the historic Comstock region near Virginia City, always has a busy schedule of unique arts and culture events for the public. Below are highlights of some upcoming winter and spring events.

Silver City, Nevada - The Silver City Post Office, established in 1860, has a display case with changing collections that highlight local history as well as current programs.

Display of Work by Visiting Artists: For those who missed a December 2016 show featuring the artwork, essays, poems, assemblages, and photographs created by visiting artists at the Resident Artist Program in Silver City, some of the pieces are on display at the Silver City Post Office through March.

And here comes more rain. Take a stand against the wet weather and go enjoy Carson City. Karaoke can be found at SlotWorld Casino on Highway 50 East. Live music is always on the menu at Living the Good Life. Kick up your heels and learn some new moves at Carson Lanes – Country Dance lessons are every Tuesday and Wednesday. The third Annual Early Childhood Expo will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club, 1870 Russell Way, Carson City.

Last month, the Carson River breached its banks, crossed a major highway, and transformed commutes up and down the Carson Valley from Reno to Minden, turning a twenty- or thirty-minute scenic drive into a three- or four-hour ordeal.

Then, a series of winter storms dropped over ten feet of snow in parts of the Lake Tahoe Basin. Emergency officials advised residents in both areas to shelter in place to avoid the flood or the blizzard—and for some who live in the valley and work in the basin (or vice versa) — both.

The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, "ART from WNC", at the Community Development Building [the Brick], 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City. Twenty-one student artists from Western Nevada College, Carson City, have work in the exhibit. CCAI will host an artists’ reception on Tuesday, February 7, 5:30-7pm. The free exhibition is available to the public from February 1 – March 30, 2017; the building is open Monday - Friday, 8am – noon, 1-4pm.

David Lee's 23rd book, "Bluebonnets, Firewheels, and Brown-Eyed Susans, Or, Poems New and Used from the Bandera Rag and Bone Shop," was published recently. He's been on tour, reading and teaching at the Cliff Notes Writing Conference in Utah and at poetry festivals in Ohio, among others.

After collecting as many pottery bowls as possible throughout the year, the local Empty Bowls Project is holding its annual fundraiser Friday, Dec. 2 at the First Presbyterian Church in downtown Carson City to deliver a blow to hunger in the community.

Comma coffee presents back by popular demand the graphite works of Scott Tyzbir. Scott is a local resident of Carson City. His inspiration has always been his son Cody.

On display will be over a dozen one-of-a-kind drawings mostly Native American. Scott likes to draw just about anything but his favorites are the Native American.

On Tuesday, October 11, the Capital City Arts Initiative [CCAI] will present a talk by artist Galen Brown. His illustrated talk, "Untilted", is part of CCAI’s ongoing Nevada Neighbors series and will take place at 7pm at the Community Development building [the Brick], 108 E Proctor St, Carson City.

UPDATE 4:15PM From Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong: The Carson City Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office responded to two arson-related fires at the Foreman-Roberts House Museum over the weekend. The first fire was reported on Sunday morning at approximately 2:34 a.m., damaging primarily the east side of the structure. On Monday morning at approximately 4:29 a.m., another fire was reported, this time the origin site was located on the south side of the building. The two incidents have resulted in moderate damage to the building.

The weekend has arrived and there are festivals everywhere. A Basque Festival and Picnic can be found in Gardnerville. Bowers Mansion hosts a Bluegrass Festival for the 31st year. Ta-Hoe Nalu Paddle Festival returns to King Beach for the weekend. The Annual Jazz and Beyond Music Festival has infiltrated the whole valley with musicians.
