Carson City suspect in house fire found dead at Duck Hill
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 07/15/2011 - 7:15pmThe suspect who fired a single gun shot tonight in the area of an arson fire early this morning on Garnet Way and Duck Hill has been found dead.
The gunshot was heard around 7 p.m., and authorities spent more than two hours searching for the suspect, Robert McCleary, who was wanted for questioning after reportedly setting his home on fire and leaving surreptitious messages.

NHP: 10-year-old boy dies in SUV rollover
Submitted by editor on Fri, 07/15/2011 - 9:12amA 10-year-old boy died from injuries sustained in a single vehicle rollover accident on Thursday eight miles south of Carson CIty in Douglas County, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports. The boy and the driver of the SUV were taken by Care Flight where the child later died of his injuries at a Reno hospital.
The boy, Felix Vargas, was in the SUV with seven others when it rolled over, with the boy being thrown from the vehicle, said NHP Trooper Dan Lopez.
Gardnerville man identified in fatal motorcycle accident
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 07/15/2011 - 5:14amA Gardnerville man has been identified in the fatal motorcycle accident Wednesday morning on State Route 88 at Centerville Lane in Douglas County, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.
Craig William Ducar, 42, died from injuries sustained from a collision with another vehicle.
Carson City home destroyed; arson suspected as authorities search for homeowner
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 07/15/2011 - 4:41amCarson City authorities remain on the scene of a fire which destroyed a home early this morning near the intersection of Garnet Way and Ruby Lane. According to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong, a search both on and off the property is being conducted for the homeowner.
It is not known where owner Robert McCleary is at, but given the suspicious nature of the fire and the possibility that it was intentionally set, the homeowner is a person of interest, Furlong said.
"We are still sifting through the debris," he said.
Carson City man faces felony charges in Minden burglary
Submitted by editor on Wed, 07/13/2011 - 5:10pmA Carson City man and an accomplice face felony burglary charges after authorities found them Tuesday at a Minden home loading up a vehicle of items they allegedly attempted to steal.
Joshua Anderson, 30, of Carson City and Jeremy Nelson, 36, of Minden face the charges following the home burglary in the 2800 block of Vicky Lane, according to Douglas County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Jim Halsey.
Motorcyclist dies in Douglas County accident
Submitted by editor on Wed, 07/13/2011 - 2:51pmA 42-year-old motorcyclist died this morning in an accident on State Route 88 at Centerville Lane in Douglas County, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.
A preliminary crash investigation done indicates that a Red Hummer, driven by a 51-year-old Gardnerville resident, was traveling westbound on Centerville Lane from the stop sign and failed to yield striking a Honda motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. Traffic was diverted while emergency crews investigated the accident.
The name of the victim hasn't been released pending notification of relatives.
Authorities look for owners of stolen property recovered in Douglas County

A large amount of electronic items, including cell phones, iPods, a web cam, as well as miscellaneous costume jewelry was turned in to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office on July 7 by an anonymous citizen who located the property in a vacated residential trailer, reports Sgt. Jim Halsey.

Carson City man arrested for starting fire in Brunswick Canyon
Submitted by admin on Mon, 07/11/2011 - 2:12pmSheriff's deputies arrested a 25-year-old Carson City man whose alleged use of fireworks started a brush fire in Brunswick Canyon Saturday night.
According to the arrest report, a deputy responding to the scene of the fire found a truck with six subjects in it, along with numerous fireworks. The driver, Jay Summerville, allegedly told deputies that one of the fireworks had gone across the Carson River and started a fire in a bush.
Man arrested for biting off his brother's finger in Carson City bar
Submitted by admin on Tue, 07/05/2011 - 2:46pmFrankie Lee Lemos, 40, of Mill Creek, Washington, was arrested Monday morning by a Carson City deputy in Douglas County after he allegedly bit off part of his brother's finger during an argument in a bar.
According to the arrest report, deputies were called to a bar on East Long Street where they met the suspect's brother, minus one part of his left pinky finger. The victim told deputies that his brother had left the bar in a cab after the incident.

Placerville woman falls to her death at Lake Tahoe casino
Submitted by editor on Fri, 07/01/2011 - 10:29pmDetectives of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office are investigating the death of a Placerville woman who fell from a 14th floor balcony at the Horizon Casino Resort in Stateline on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe.
The body of the woman, later identified as Loretta Sangara, 68, of Placerville, was discovered by Horizon Casino security officers at about 10 a.m. on Friday, said Douglas County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Jim Halsey in a news release.
Carson City leaders give update on State of the City

Mayor Bob Crowell, Supervisor Shelly Aldean, Sheriff Kenny Furlong and School Board Chair Joanna Wilson each spoke to the crowd, and in general agreed that while these are challenging times, each made the case that things are going well and improving.

NHP: One dead in Highway 395 accident in Douglas County
Submitted by editor on Wed, 06/08/2011 - 5:27pmOne person died in an accident today three miles south of Gardnerville in Douglas County, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.
An early investigation into the accident shows that the driver of a 2004 Ford F-150 was pulling a camper trailer and traveling in the southbound lane of Highway 395. For reasons that remain unclear the Ford, occupied by a 73-year-old male from California, drifted into the northbound travel lane and hit a commercial vehicle driven by a Wisconsin resident, said NHP Trooper Daniel Lopez.

Up to an inch of rain is possible for Carson City, Reno, Douglas County and the Lake Tahoe Basin, with the possibility of minor flooding along small streams and creeks, according to the weather service and CarsonWeather.com.
