NHP: One dead in Highway 395 accident in Douglas County
One person died in an accident today three miles south of Gardnerville in Douglas County, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.
An early investigation into the accident shows that the driver of a 2004 Ford F-150 was pulling a camper trailer and traveling in the southbound lane of Highway 395. For reasons that remain unclear the Ford, occupied by a 73-year-old male from California, drifted into the northbound travel lane and hit a commercial vehicle driven by a Wisconsin resident, said NHP Trooper Daniel Lopez.
The driver of the Ford F-150 died at the scene. Authorities will release the name of the deceased after family has been contacted. The driver of the commercial vehicle sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from the Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare, Lopez said.
The roadway was closed for about five hours in both directions while traffic was diverted to an adjacent road next to the highway.
Witnesses to the event or anyone with additional information are encouraged to call the Department of Public Safety-Communications Center at (775) 687-0400 regarding case # NHP 1106080925.
