Not only is the CHS National Honor Society Blood Drive coming up, Oct. 6 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the small gym, but Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval proclaimed Oct. 3-7 to be the “Week of Respect” throughout the state of Nevada.

Leaders warn of marijuana use dangers, speak out against November ballot question

“I’ve lived in Nevada half of my life,” he said. “This is my state. I do not want a state that takes that slippery slope.”
O’Neill was the featured presenter at Partnership Carson City’s Community Action Agency Network meeting at the Carson City Sheriff’s Office on Friday.

She was a regular in a floor show in a Mexican restaurant in the former Silver City Mall — where Lowe’s now stands. Earning her Screen Actors Guild card, she also starred in a McDonald’s commercial that ran annually.

Historical Society General Membership Meeting features State Archivist Jeffrey M. Kintop

The meeting will be in the private room at the northwest corner of the building. Jeffrey M. Kintop, State Archivist at the Nevada State Library and Archives, will discuss the 50th anniversary of the State Archives. Appointed State Archivist July 1, 2009, Kintop has worked at the Nevada State Library and Archives for 32 years.

It makes me nervous when someone who might become president of the United States says the science on climate change is “convoluted” and that it is “arrogant” to assert that humans are the primary cause of global warming.
That’s what happened recently when Jeb Bush, the still-undeclared presidential candidate, said the following at a campaign-style event in New Hampshire:

Column: Proving non-cash contribution tax deductions

The WNC Wildcats take on the College of Eastern Utah this afternoon on the baseball field. The monthly Francis Humphrey Lecture Series at the Nevada State Museum features a slide-show and talk about various geothermal features around the world. Or you can enjoy a performance at the Bob Boldrick Theater in the Community Center as our talented student string musicians present their Spring Fling concert. Check out the list for even more.

Submitted by Danielle Cook on Tue, 04/21/2015 - 5:58amThe Stewart Indian School is the site of today’s ‘Easy Walk’ led by the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department. If you can’t join them this morning, make a point of exploring this treasure on your own. A podcast is available to guide you through the history of the site, complete with narratives from some who spent their youth there. Memorabilia from the school is on display at the Nevada State Museum and plans for a cultural center are in the works. Their cemetery is the final resting place of one of the area’s most famous Native American residents, basket-maker, Dot-so-la Lee. For more information on the Stewart Indian School go here.

UNR students, faculty and staff stand up for sexual assault awareness
Submitted by editor on Thu, 04/02/2015 - 10:51amSince the February release of results from a student survey regarding sexual conduct and safety, a number of efforts to strengthen a supportive campus climate, one with zero tolerance for sexual assault, sexual misconduct and other life-damaging actions, have been put in place at the University of Nevada, Reno.
In March, the University launched a 24-hour Sexual Assault/Sexual Misconduct Hotline, allowing students, faculty and staff to report incidents that occur on or off campus. The caller may remain anonymous if he/she chooses. The hotline phone number is 775-784-1030.
