However, there are a few exceptions that avoid the penalty.

Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell and City Manager Nick Marano, both veterans, attended Wednesday's meeting and highlighted changes to the city's new, improved web site scheduled to go public by the end of May.

Carson City's RCIL makes case for federal recognition

The meeting's purpose was to elicit public comments about how federal funds for centers for independent living are to be dispersed in the community.

Section 529A of the Internal Revenue Code gives a way to fund an account for certain individuals with disabilities. The account is sort of modeled after the Section 529 plans that allow the funds for education expenses in the account to accumulate income (earnings) tax free.

Cathryn is predeceased by her brother, Bruce Gullick, and survived by her brother, Michael Gullick. Cathryn is also survived by her five children, Christy Minor, Patrica Hopper, Lucas Waelbrock, Ryan Waelbrock and Tyler Waelbrock.
Carson City businesses pour out oil, vinegar and love to homeless

Last month, noted area Chef Don Pepe, owner of Carpa Nevada LLC, sold more than $1,000 worth of his fine imported Portuguese olive oil and balsamic vinegars through Downtown Coin in Carson City.
The entire proceeds, totaling $400 in profit, were then donated to “Pets of the Homeless,” a Carson City-based non-profit organization that helps provide food and veterinary care for homeless companions nationwide.

JAC celebrates a decade of service in Carson City
Submitted by editor on Wed, 09/30/2015 - 10:37amWith more than 1.5 million rides thus far, this Saturday will mark the 10-year anniversary of Carson City’s public transportation system, Jump Around Carson, also known as JAC.
To celebrate, JAC will offer free rides throughout the day Monday, Oct. 5, on its four fixed Carson City area routes. Additionally, special “10 Years of Service” memorabilia will be passed out to riders and citizens alike throughout the year, said Carson City Transportation Manager Patrick Pittenger.

The recent zeal to bring attention to Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) has rightfully brought the topic to the fore. But I feel that the media blitz has been at the expense of other equally severe mental disabilities, the awareness of which have waned and suffered. However good the intentions toward autism coverage may be, this attention has consequently overshadowed other developmental disabilities that are just as critical to treat, and equally heart-breaking.

And as always, the Nevada State Railroad Museum beckons: this week with rides on the Steam Train available.

Get out and enjoy our valley and the surrounding towns, there will be plenty of good times. Carson Valley Days has begun in our neighbor to the south, complete with carnival at Lampe Park. Tonight, welcome a new exhibit in the CCAI Gallery at the Courthouse: a reception for the artists of ‘Industrial Arts’ begins at 5 p.m. Meet the Journey of Hope bike riders at Western Nevada College; plenty of activities for everyone.

American Heart Association applauds Nevada passage of statewide Stroke System of Care

“We’re very pleased to see this important bill become a law. The taxpayers are a married couple. She was a retired nurse with state retirement benefits. He worked for wages that were subject to Social Security and Medicare taxes. He got Social Security benefits of $19,132 from his earnings history. They were both age 82 and lived in Ohio.

Staff members be visiting a different rural Nevada area each week to share information about products and services available to rural residents who have disabilities. They’ll be at the Carson City Senior Center, Friday, March 6 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; the Dayton Senior Center the second Monday of each month, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; and the Dayton Library the third Thursday of each month, from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m.
