CARSON CITY, Nev. – Many Nevada schoolchildren will take part in organized events to walk or bicycle to school on Oct. 4 in recognition of International Walk to School Day. Children not taking part in an organized school event are encouraged to involve their family in safely walking or bicycling to school on that Wednesday and other days.

The Carson Douglas Medical Society Alliance presented FISH, also known as Friends in Service Helping, with a donation of $2,000 dedicated to the Ross Clinic.

Beyond Type 1 is a group that was formed in 2015. Beyond Type 1 is a new brand of philanthropy leveraging the power of social media and technology, changing what it means to live with Type 1 diabetes. By educating the global community about this chronic, autoimmune disease, as well as providing resources and support for those living with Type 1 diabetes.

As one of only two certified diabetes education programs in Northern Nevada, Carson Tahoe Health in Carson City has once again been awarded the prestigious American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Certificate for providing an outstanding diabetes self-management education program.

Whether it's snowboarders, skiers, cyclists, runners or swimmers, Olympic and elite athletes utilize Lake Tahoe to push their training regimens to the limit with challenging and breathtaking terrain.

CARSON CITY — Patients and family members of those who suffer from diabetes shared stories of struggle and heartbreak Wednesday and urged support for a bill to rein in escalating costs of diabetes medication.

Partnership Carson City is hosting a Diabetes Self-Management Class developed by Stanford University. Class meets for two and a half hours on Fridays, for six weeks. The first class is on May 19 and meets from 9:45 to 12:30 pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1201 N. Saliman Rd., Carson City. The class covers monitoring blood sugar; coping with anger, fear and frustration; communication with health care professionals, family, and friends; use of medications; relaxation techniques; healthy eating; physical activity and more.

Between a heavy union presence and immense pressure from industry players, next week’s hearing on a major pharmaceutical regulatory measure, including price controls on diabetes medicine, promises to be one of the hardest fought battles of the 2017 session.

A 46-year-old Reno woman was arrested Tuesday for multiple felony charges after allegedly using a stolen car in an attempt to buy a vehicle at a South Carson Street auto dealership, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
