WEDNESDAY, Jan. 17: Things to do in Carson City

Playing in the snow probably isn’t an option for this weekend, but Singing in the Rain sure is. The kids of Youth Theater Carson City present a junior adaptation of the musical favorite this weekend and next. The Experimental Aircraft Association hosts ‘Young Eagle’ flights every few months at the Carson Airport to give kids 8 – 17 a plane ride to remember. Help out the Dayton Food Bank during their ‘Stuff-a-Cop-Car’ food drive at the Smith’s in Dayton; unexpired non-perishables of all kinds are appreciated. On September 15, 2017 the annual Nevada bear hunt season opens, and this year 45 hunters have been issued tags to participate in the season that lasts until Dec. 1, or until the quota of 20 black bears has been met, according to the Nevada Department of Wildlife. The quota in 2016 was 41 bears.

RENO, Nev. – BuildNV.org, in partnership with the Washoe County School District Department of Career and Technical Education, is seeking exhibitors for the 2nd annual Construction Career Day at the Reno Sparks Convention Center on Thursday, Sept. 28, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Several of the stops will be hosting musicians, in addition to vino.

An electric month of local vibes and community events arrives Friday as the 14th annual Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival begins at the historic Bliss Mansion, launching an 18-day, jam-packed schedule featuring original jazz music and various art and film gatherings at multiple venues around the capital city.
