Here is this week's fishing report for rivers, lakes and streams in Nevada, Northern California and the Sierra. Be sure to pack your sunscreen and plenty of cool beverages. Temperatures will heat up in the valleys near the century mark and 90 degrees or better in the Sierra.

Alumni to be honored at Stewart Father's Day Powwow

Former students of the historic Stewart Indian School will be honored at a special recognition ceremony as part of the 2013 Stewart Father’s Day Powwow in Carson City June 14-16.

Hosted in partnership with the Nevada Indian Commission and the Stewart Alumni, the annual powwow includes quality Native American arts and crafts vendors and is also a time for alumni, former employees, families and friends to gather at the former campus.

Rotary Club of Carson City Announces Winners of Second Annual Beer and Pizza Championships

CARSON CITY, NV - For the second year in a row, area residents came out by the hundreds to enjoy an evening of pizza, beer, music and fundraising for a good cause. The second annual Carson City Rotary Club Beer and Pizza Championships was a big success, raising more than $25,000 to assist with a number of community needs.

High Sierra Swing Dance contest 'celebs' prepare for big night

Six local Carson City celebrities are competing in a "Dancing With the Stars"- type contest at the High Sierra Swing Dance Club’s sixth anniversary dinner-dance on April 27 at the Carson Nugget.

The "Local Celebrities Who Think They Can Dance" contestants have been paired with local dance instructors for a variety of dances, including swing, country, Latin, and hip hop. The instructors are Jo Ann Grace, Rainer Herm, Emily Thicke, Armando Nevarez, Earl Case and Bob Truesdale.

Outdoors with Don Q: Having fun, again, in Southern California

Elaine and I spent March 28-April 07 on a fun-filled, springtime return to Southern California for several reasons:
1. To celebrate our 11th Wedding Anniversary (March 30).
2. To visit my cousin Lorraine Scholes and her husband Bob, who have a winter home in Indio.
3. To attend our first-ever "Palm Springs Follies" show in Palm Springs.
4. To fly from Indio to Big Bear (our first-ever visit there).

Carson St. No-host cocktails at 6 p.m., celebrity dancers’ contest at 6:30, buffet dinner at 7, dancing to a variety of DJ music throughout the evening. Requested attire is formal or semi-formal. Cost is $30.

Trio keeps Irish music alive; performs Saturday at Adele's

Enjoy a traditional St. Patrick’s Day celebration, Saturday, March 16, with a hearty helping of live music by Cíana and corned beef and cabbage dinner served at Café at Adele’s.

The fun is planned for 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and includes a variety of songs and tunes, two very different things according to Joe Blye (vocals, whistles and guitar), who, with his wife Kathy Blye (guitar and octave mandolin) and Tina Carlsen (fiddle and backing vocals), are Cíana.

CARSON CITY - With the judges seated and ready, Carson's Dancing with the Stars was in full swing Saturday night.
The dancing stars had some ups and downs, they all tried to dazzle the judges in hopes of winning the mirror ball trophy.

Dance floors around town are heating up as contestants for ‘Dancing with the Stars’, Carson City Edition, polish their routines. The event takes place Saturday, March 9, 7 p.m. at the Carson High School gymnasium.

Local stars expected to compete include Sheriff Ken Furlong, District Attorney Neil Rombardo, City Supervisor/Adele’s co-owner Karen Abowd, Miss Carson City Vannesa Macias, and several others. They are teamed up with experienced dancers as they vie for the mirror ball trophy.

The annual Mr. Carson High competition will be held on Friday, March 1st at 6:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. Senior boys will be competing for the crown through dancing, singing and a variety of other talents. Fast Pass tickets can be purchased for $15.

This ticket includes appetizers and choice of preferred seating. General admission tickets are $7. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the CHS finance office, Sierra Adrenaline Cheer and Tumbling, CHS cheerleaders or Mr. Carson candidates.

Free movie showing of 'Bottle Shock' tonight ahead of BAC Winter Wine fundraiser

Winter Wine and All that Jazz for Brewery Arts Center Jan. 19

An evening of wine tasting and dancing will be featured at the Winter Wine & All the Jazz, set for Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, 7 to 10 p.m. at the Carson Nugget Ballroom in Carson City.
The event, a fundraiser for the Brewery Arts Center, will feature exceptional wines from the finest vineyards, tasting, light Hors d'oeuvres, live jazz orchestra and dancing. Tickets are $30 a person and are available at Home Treasures, Carson Mall or call Larry Messina, (775) 315-0141.

Carson City shows its holiday best at Snowflake Festival of Lights

Being the capital city of Nevada, Carson City once again shines brighter and bucks the rest, turning the lights on Friday to not one but two Christmas trees during the kick-off of the two-day Snowflake Festival of Lights.

Perched on the State Capital steps, some 300 voices of the Carson City 5th Grade Singing Ensemble sang Christmas carols to a crowd of hundreds (if not thousands) of parents, siblings, dignitaries, retirees, state workers and locals who swelled onto Carson Street in good measure.

Santa, Holiday Craft Sale and Musical Theater at The Children's Museum

On Saturday, December 15th the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada in Carson City is hosting several holiday events.  From 10am-4pm the museum will have its first annual Holiday Craft Sale.  They will be featuring Carson City Pottery which is housed in the museum.  Staff and students will be giving demonstrations and selling work for last minute holiday purchases.  In addition, the museum gift shop will be having a one day only sale, 20% off for members and 10% off for non-members.  Admission to the sales are free.  Limited vender space still available.  Contact Mary Ann at 884-2226

Perennial holiday favorite “The Nutcracker” will be presented in Carson City by the Pinkerton Ballet Theatre Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 23-25.
The Nutcracker Ballet is based on the story “The Nutcracker and the King of Mice” written by E.T.A. Hoffman. It is the story of a young German girl, Clara, who dreams of a Nutcracker Prince and a fierce battle against a Mouse King with seven heads. Scored by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, the ballet features one of the holiday season’s most famous pieces of classical music.
