High Sierra Swing Dance Club presents its monthly dance party June 28 at the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom, 449 W. King St., Carson City. At 6:30 p.m., Clay and Cullen Mitchell will teach jitterbug, a 1940s-style swing dance and simplified version of Lindy hop. This is in preparation for the Silver Dollar Car Classic Sock Hop at the Carson Nugget on July 26. Social dance is 7:30-10 p.m. Partners are not required. Lesson $7 for HSSDC and any swing dance club members or $10 for nonmembers; dance $7 for members of swing clubs and $10 for nonmembers.

Annual Powwow Celebrates Nevada's Rich, Native History

Stewart Indian School in Carson City hosts its annual Father’s Day Powwow, Friday, June 13 through Sunday, June 15, and is one of the sanctioned 150 events celebrating Nevada’s Sesquicentennial – 150 years of statehood. Everyone is invited to experience the beauty and significance of Nevada’s Native American heritage through traditional dance competitions, music and elaborate costumes of this wonderful, rich culture.

Dorothy’s Dance Adventure in the Land of Oz

We have many festivities, activities and fundraisers being planned for the coming months.

Plans for Carson City Jazz and Beyond Music Festival underway

Get ready for an exciting summer of music when the Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival takes place, August 1-17. The festival, which began in 2004, is presented by the Mile High Jazz Band Assoc.

Last year, the Jazz and Beyond Festival featured 60 performances and over 100 performers, and organizers hope to match that accomplishment this year. Most performances are presented free to the public. Beyond jazz, the festival included bluegrass, blues, mariachi, and more.

'Sagebrush Celebration' recital features composer Carson Cooman, violinist Andrew Sords

'Chicago' to hit the stage May 9-18 in Carson City

Murder. Corruption. Greed. Fame. And all that jazz. The Western Nevada Musical Theater Company brings the sizzling Broadway blockbuster, Chicago, to Northern Nevada on weekends, May 9-18 at the Carson City Community Center.

Set in the windy city during the roaring 1920's, the show follows the stories of two murderers - nightclub singer Velma Kelly, who kills her husband and sister when she finds them cheating on her; and aspiring vaudeville singer Roxie Hart, who murders her lover for promising to get her into show biz, only to get her into bed.
