Country Dancing Comes to Piper's Opera House

The Carson Lanes Country Kickers, a dance group that meets and dances weekly at Carson Lanes’ Eleventh Frame Lounge, will bring their skill, enthusiasm and fun to the first, in what hopefully will be the first of many country dance nights on the spring-loaded dance floor at Piper’s.

I strive to make sure that my things-to-do lists reflect the many options available to you. Today, for example, you’ll find a fundraiser for Catmandu, the monthly meeting of the fly fishing club, some country line dancing, jazz and poetry, and a walk along the historic Blue Line Trail. No two Tuesdays are alike (or Wednesdays or Thursdays, for that matter), so it’s always worth checking out. Now that we are moving into autumn, the activities in Carson City change like the leaves.

As the summer goes along, kids get a little antsy. Take your grade schooler up to Silver City for their annual Bike Safety Rodeo and you’ll leave confident that they know the rules of the road. Hit the dance floor tonight. You can learn some beginning swing dance moves at El Charro Avita. Grab your partner and head to Carson Lanes for lessons in country line dancing and a good time with DJ Cowboy Bobby Truesdale.

Check out the Jazz and Beyond offerings: Carolyn Dolan with members of the Reno Jazz Orchestra at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall or music with the New World Jazz Project on the Adele’s Veranda. Telegraph Square will be abuzz with art and music as the third Community Art Night takes place: bring something non-perishable for the F.I.S.H. food bank and an appetite for food truck offerings.

Throw in some great music on the veranda at Adele's, a Ukulele Jam at Mormon Station in Genoa, and a Vintage Chevy Meet-up in Virginia City and things get a little more random. Crossroads Lounge is hosting their last Wednesday night karaoke this week; a new night and time will be announced soon. Carson Hot Springs invites all Veterans and Military members to come swim for free today.

Luckily, weekly Parks and Rec 'Easy Walk' starts at 8 a.m., so you'll be off the trail before the sun gets too far overhead. The Brewery Arts Center hosts the Carson City Classic Cinema Club the first Tuesday of each month; join them this evening for trivia and a showing of John Wayne's 'Stagecoach.' Dance the night away to the sounds of big band or cowboys: swing dance lessons are at El Charro Avita, while country line dancing can be found in the Eleventh Frame Lounge at Carson Lanes.

Kids won’t want to miss Craft Day at the Carson City Library: all supplies are free and waiting. It’s an evening of illusion at the Brewery Arts Center. Be dazzled and help raise funds for the Carson Middle School Band Program.

Why, oh, why did she swallow that fly when there is the monthly W.I.N.O.S. ladies night at Tahoe Ridge Winery tonight? Wine and cheese are a much better alternative to flies anyday. It’s National Cheese Day and Old Maids Day, so all you single ladies go celebrate; an old maid ain’t what it used to be. For those of you with kids, head over to the Carson City Library to visit with Mother Goose: she knows what to do if one swallows a fly.

It’s National Hamburger Day during National Hamburger Month, so you might as well celebrate at the Experimental Aircraft Association's weekly burger lunch. If you like random trivia, head over to Alatte Coffee and Wine Bar in the Nugget for their trivia night. Or burn off that burger with some salsa dancing at El Charro Avita or country line dancing at Beercade.
