He'll offer another of his extraordinary readings at the Silver City School House at 385 High Street on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 1pm. James Hoggard, the former poet laureate of Texas, writes,“Lee’s poems will make you laugh till your tears make it impossible to see the page.”

Named one of the 12 greatest writers to ever emerge from the state by Utah Endowment for the Humanities, David Lee was Utah’s first and longest serving poet laureate.

Silver City Post Office Hosts Display on Resident Artist Program

Silver City, Nevada - The Silver City Post Office, established in 1860, has a display case with changing collections that highlight local history as well as current programs.

Display of Work by Visiting Artists: For those who missed a December 2016 show featuring the artwork, essays, poems, assemblages, and photographs created by visiting artists at the Resident Artist Program in Silver City, some of the pieces are on display at the Silver City Post Office through March.

Former investigative reporter Frank Mullen to channel Dan DeQuille at Gold Hill Hotel

Journalist Frank X. Mullen will channel a colleague from the past March 3 at the Gold Hill Hotel’s Friday Night Showcase when he offers a presentation on “Dan DeQuille, The Washoe Giant.”

DeQuille was a compatriot of Sam Clemens, aka Mark Twain, when both worked at the Territorial Enterprise in the 1860s. However, unlike Twain, DeQuille stayed on the Comstock for more than 30 years, and didn’t achieve the fame of his fellow journalist Twain.

Carson City commute for Feb. 22: Winter weather brings slippery roads

Rain turned to snow Tuesday and overnight temperatures dropped to below freezing, resulting in potentially slippery roads for the Wednesday morning commute.

Motorists are advised to watch for areas of black ice on the highways and roadways in and around Carson City.

Painting of Historic Silver City at the Nevada Legislature

Artwork by Sophie Scott of New Zealand will be on display at the Nevada State Legislative Building in Carson City during the 2017 Legislative session. Look for it on the third floor near Ways and Means. Sophie’s painting, based on an 1860s photograph of Silver City, was created while she was a resident artist in Silver City in 2015.
