Flavors of India to host fundraiser to send Carson’s Speech and Debate Team to National competition

The Carson High School Speech and Debate team is inviting the community to Flavors of India between 5 - 6:30 p.m., 1105 S. Carson St., Carson City.

Come enjoy delicious food, live entertainment and great conversations.

They are raising money to send qualifying students to the National Speech and Debate competition in Dallas, TX, this June.

Buffet tickets are $25 at the door or you can purchase them in advance. Thank you for your support.

Ahead of Miss USA competition next week in Reno, competitors meet Nevada representatives at Legislature, Capitol

Ahead of next week’s Miss USA Competition, happening on Thursday in Reno, each competing representative from across the country gathered in Carson City on Thursday at the Nevada State Legislature and Nevada State Capitol building to meet with representatives of the Nevada government.

According to Ivet Contreras of IC Media Strategy, the fact that Nevada’s State Senate has a female-led majority, the first in the U.S., was a part of the decision to tour the government grounds today.

Carson Valley's Steve Jacobo leads Americans in Para Sport World Championships

The 2018/2019 Para Sport season wrapped up this past weekend in a thrilling two days of competition, on American home ice in Lake Placid, NY.

For the Americans, Steven Jacobo established himself early as the frontrunner for Team USA, closing out the season with an eighth place finish on his home track. He rallied for the third fastest time of the fourth and final heat to show his promise in the sport.

I just returned from Orange, Virginia from a conference held at Montpelier, former US President James Madison's estate. I was chosen among applicants to attend this conference because I think our community needs to know the cool educational opportunities in which teachers are embarking. The conference covered “Gender, Sexual Identity, and the Constitution.”

Carson City's The Fox to hold fundraiser for local family to avert daughter’s cancer medical costs

Local restaurant and brewery, The Fox Brewpub, will hold a fundraiser for a local family whose daughter was recently diagnosed with cancer on Saturday, April 6 from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.

The event, which will raise funds for ten year-old Aylee Sharron, who was recently diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma and is the daughter of Mariel and Tony Sharron, will feature a raffle and live-music.

Jazz & Beyond Committee Announces 2019 Art Contest

Mile High Band Association’s 2019 Jazz and Beyond Festival Committee is sponsoring an art contest for Carson-Tahoe area artists. Selected entries in the competition may be used to promote the festival, and the winning entry will be featured on the festival’s advertising poster and program cover.

A T-shirt may also feature one of the designs submitted.

The entry deadline is May 15th, 2019.

Carson City Parks and Rec to host Trash Dash Competition, prizes included

On April 13 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. a Trash Dash Competition will be hosted by Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space, with prizes awarded in three categories. Participants must find as much trash as they can, but prizes will also be awarded to most interesting find, and largest item.

Carson City HOSA students compete in state competition, take home 6 chapter awards

CARSON CITY — A total of 93 Career and Technical Education (CTE) and HOSA (Future Health Professionals) students competed in the Nevada State Leadership Conference held at the Rio in Las Vegas March 18-20.

There were a total of 74 students from Carson High School (CHS), 6 from Pioneer High School (PHS) and 13 from Carson Middle School (CMS). More than 1,000 students from across the state of Nevada competed in more than 40 medical competition events.

Carson City School Board meeting to discuss competitions, early release days

The Carson City School Board will host its next meeting on March 12 at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

Topics to discuss will include the Superintendent’s Report, which will go over the NJROTC Orienteering Team and the report from the national competition. In addition, the Carson City High School Cheer Team and the recognition of third place winner at the USA Spirit Nationals Competition will be discussed.
