Save the Date! Come to support those less fortunate in your community and enjoy a hot meal before or after the tree lighting at the Capital.

Artisans and volunteers have been working hard throughout the year, creating some very special projects to choose as a reminder there are many empty bowls in our community.

Empty Bowls takes place Friday, Dec. 2 from 4 to 7 p.m. inside the Carson Mall.

The cost to attend is a $15 donation which includes a special handmade bowl and dinner.

All proceeds benefit the FISH Food Bank and Family Dining Room in Carson City.

A whopping 1 in 3 people in the United States will develop cancer during their lifetime, according to the American Cancer Society. At Eyemart Express, the Carson City community can support Stand Up To Cancer’s research efforts by purchasing new glasses.

Carson City's Capital City C.I.R.C.L.E.S. Initiative is hosting a virtual move-a-thon as a fundraiser. The Capital City C.I.R.C.L.E.S. Move-a-Thon will be taking place virtually, everywhere, wherever participants like! It will be happening Saturday, June 12th, from 10:00 a.m. to noon.

The Carson Valley LGBTQ+ and Friends Social is proud to announce the Business Sponsorship of Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint as well as Community Sponsors – PFAG (United States’ first and largest organization uniting parents, families, and allies with people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer – LGBTQ+) and Sassabration (Carson Valley’s Annual Pride Celebration).

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of holiday events around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights, the 24th annual Parade of Lights in Gardnerville, the annual Project Empty Bowls dinner held at the Carson Mall, a Holiday Crawl in downtown Carson City and much more! With family activities making up the Christmas tree lighting at the capitol on Friday night, Saturday night is reserved for grownups who are invited to take a festive walk through downtown Carson City and make stops and their favorite restaurants and bars as part of a community fundraiser for local schoolchildren who are without permanent homes.

Activities include the Silver State Art Festival at Fuji Park, a Charters of Freedom presentation in the Ormsby Room of the Carson City Sheriff's Office, bike rides, train rides, a film viewing at Piper’s Opera House in Virginia City and more. It’s going to get hot again today with a high of 93, but don’t worry, as we get out further into the week the weather will turn more autumnal with highs in the 70s. It could be the last hot day for a while, at least until a freak 90s+ hot day in November followed by a week long blizzard, so enjoy it while it’s here!

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region packed with excitement over the next three days. Events include the Silver State Art Festival at Fuji Park, suicide awareness walks in Carson City, a Celtic faire at Dangberg Home Ranch, the ninth annual Edible Pedal bike ride at Bowers Mansion, train rides in Virginia City and much more!

Firehouse Subs in Carson City will hold a community fundraiser Wednesday for the families of Pioneer High and Eagle Valley Middle School students who were displaced in a May 16 structure fire at a Pheasant Drive apartment that burned four residences.

On Saturday, August 19th, CASI hosted our annual Woofs, Wine and Whiskers, and we would like to thank the wonderful businesses and individuals who donated their products, time and skills to help CASI put on another great event.

Once upon a time the talented kids of Youth Theater Carson City took to the Community Center stage. You have one last chance to catch their fairytale, ‘Into the Woods, Jr.’ before it heads off to Neverland. The Brewery Arts Center plays host to a plethora of Jazz and Beyond today. Don't miss the final day of hot rods and chrome at the Silver Dollar Car Classic in Mills Park. Exercise your artistic talent and play with some mud at Ogres-Holm Pottery where they will be creating bowls for the upcoming Empty Bowls event.

SUNDAY:

Summer weekends make me wish I had a clone. With all the hustle and bustle in town, there is just no way to do and see it all. Start the day at the Silver Dollar Car Classic and you can get your fill of shiny chrome and breakfast, too; the Kiwanis will be serving up pancakes until 10:30 a.m. The Downtown Carson City Wine Walk has been infiltrated by the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival. Several of the stops will be hosting musicians, in addition to vino.

Please join us for this exciting night of dining, music, dancing and fundraising at the 17th annual Carson City Host Lions Club annual Crab feed. This is our largest event for raising money for many of the community groups in Carson City. All 400 tickets are sold in advance. Don't wait until the last minute to get yours.

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Western Nevada, a local nonprofit offering education, advocacy, and support to individuals suffering from mental illness and their families, invites the public to support their work by attending "Unmasked: A Masquerade Soiree to Support Mental Illness Recovery". The October 8 dinner gala at Thunder Canyon Golf Club will feature world-renowned professional hockey goalie and author Clint Malarchuk as the keynote speaker. Entertainment will be provided by La Cirque Vagabond and the jazz trio Dave and Friends. Masks are optional!

The popular Sassafras restaurant, which was forced out of its downtown Carson City location earlier this year, will re-open soon at Carson Hot Springs Resort, according to the restaurant's owners.

The Northern Nevada Special Olympics program will support training and competition for 97 new bowlers this year and wants all area bowlers to participate in a fundraiser.

The "Bowl for the Gold" community fundraiser will take place on Friday, Nov. 12 at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno. Sign-in begins at 5 p.m. Bowling begins at 6 p.m. This is the inaugural "Bowl for the Gold” event in Reno.  A “Bowl for the Gold” event has been hosted for three consecutive years in Las Vegas to support southern Nevada bowlers. 

A reminder that the Carson High School Ski and Snowboard Team needs our support to keep them up there on the slopes, and doing their best in various competitions.
