Carson City man sentenced minimum of 5 years in prison for child neglect with substantial bodily harm

Justin Carrigan was sentenced Monday to a minimum of five and maximum of 15 years in the Nevada Department of Corrections prison after a jury in September found him guilty of child neglect with substantial bodily after a 3-year-old suffered brain damage under his care.

This is the second time a jury convicted and Judge James T. Russell sentenced Carrigan of this crime. On September 29, 2011, a jury found Carrigan guilty of child neglect with substantial bodily harm but acquitted him of child abuse with substantial bodily harm.

Woman jailed on felony battery charge after allegedly spitting on fireman, scratching deputy

A Sun Valley woman faces a felony battery charge and a gross misdemeanor charge of child neglect following an incident Tuesday in which she allegedly spit on a firefighter and used her fingernails to scratch a Carson City deputy in the wrist causing injury.

Capri Johnson, 26, was jailed on the charges and has a bail of $32,500. According to the arrest report, officers were called at 4:41 p.m. to assist Carson City Fire Department personnel with a woman with two small children who was passed out intoxicated in the 1700 block of North Carson Street.

Carson City man jailed after officers find stolen laptop

A Carson City man faces a felony charge of possessing stolen property, a laptop computer, and five misdemeanors after he was arrested Sept. 14 in the 2800 block of Carmine Street.

Eduardo Reyes, 43, was jailed with bail at $27,469. According to the arrest report, officers went to the residence of the man who had a confirmed warrant out of Carson City Justice Court for obstructing and driving without a valid license.

Justin Carrigan was convicted by a Carson City jury on Thursday of child neglect with substantial bodily harm. The Jury deliberated for approximately 45 minutes before returning a verdict of guilty.

This is the second time a jury convicted Carrigan of this crime. Allegations arose in this case from an incident on September 27, 2010, when Carrigan was the sole caregiver for Rochelle Ellis, a three year old at the time, according to a news release from the Carson City District Attorney's Office.

The toddler died of significant trauma to the brain.

Sheriff Ken Furlong said the arrest came after an extensive investigation that involved medical specialists outside the state.

Charity Lynn Rasmussen was arrested Friday, April 5, in the 3200 block of Market Street. According to the arrest report, a patrol officer making a routine registration check stopped a vehicle after dispatch advised the license plates on the vehicle were confirmed as stolen.
