Woman jailed on felony battery charge after allegedly spitting on fireman, scratching deputy

A Sun Valley woman faces a felony battery charge and a gross misdemeanor charge of child neglect following an incident Tuesday in which she allegedly spit on a firefighter and used her fingernails to scratch a Carson City deputy in the wrist causing injury.

Capri Johnson, 26, was jailed on the charges and has a bail of $32,500. According to the arrest report, officers were called at 4:41 p.m. to assist Carson City Fire Department personnel with a woman with two small children who was passed out intoxicated in the 1700 block of North Carson Street.

Officers and fire department personnel saw the woman on the floor. As she was being checked to determine if there were any medical conditions, she spit at one of the firefighters and tried to bite him when he turned her head, the arrest report states.

Johnson then began to twist and thrash around on the floor. A deputy then reached down and placed the woman's right arm in a right rear wrist lock. As the officer was placing that wrist into handcuffs, the woman reached back with her other hand and scratched the inside of the officer's left wrist with her finger nails, the arrest report states, causing two scratches, one about an inch long and the other, around 2 inches. The scratches broke the skin and the officer began to bleed, the arrest report states.

Through the investigation it was determined the woman, who was intoxicated, was in a room that did not belong to her. She showed up to the residence with her two small children, ages 5 and 3, and her estranged husband, the arrest report states. While in the room she drank vodka with her husband until she passed out, the report states. The woman's husband left prior to arrival of deputies. He was not located but returned to the scene shortly after Johnson was transported to the hospital for treatment. He was intoxicated as well, the arrest report states.

Because of her intoxication and not being able to locate a responsible person for the children, Child Protective Services was called to the scene. CPS was able to locate a person for the kids and released them. After Johnson was medically cleared, she was taken to jail for booking.

In other arrests:

— A 31-year-old Carson City man was arrested at 9:03 p.m. Sept. 17 in the 3300 block of East Fifth Street and faces misdemeanor charges of DUI, obstructing and resisting with violence and hit and run with property damage.

According to the arrest report, officers located a white Toyota at the Carson City Corporate yard occupied by a man who refused to exit the vehicle after several verbal commands.

Sgt. Mays said the man had suddenly accelerated in reverse and smashed through a chain linked fence surround the corporate yard and then flipped officers off with his middle finger and stated "f*** you." He continued to ignore commands and then suddenly exited the vehicle and then began walking away at a fast pace, the arrest report states. He continued to ignore commands and K9 Ary was used to apprehend the man, who continued to resist by punching the dog and pulling his hands away from deputies, the arrest report states. He was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for treatment.

While at the hospital, the man, who had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, resisted deputies and screamed profanities at medical staff. The man stated he had consumed "a lot of alcohol." He was read the Nevada Implied Consent and stated he would submit to a blood test. Once released from the hospital he was booked into Carson City Jail and faces charges of DUI first offense, hit and run with property damage, and obstructing and resisting officers with violence. Bail: $2,101.

— A 42-year-old Carson City man was tasered and then arrested at 4:23 a.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of Broadleaf. He faces misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and obstructing and resisting an officer.

According to the arrest report, officers responded to the residence after a call came into dispatch of a man kicking a garage door. Upon arrival, officers observed the man standing behind a large bush at the northeast window of the residence. Officers gave a number of verbal commands to come out with his hands up.

The man didn't comply with the verbal commands. Officers were unable to see the man's hands and not knowing if he was armed, the officer drew his taser, advising that he was under arrest and to comply with the commands or he would be tasered, the arrest report states.

The man, who smelled strongly of alcohol, didn't comply and the taser was deployed. The man continued to resist and didn't follow commands to put his hands behind his back and was tasered a second time. The man continued to resist as he was being handcuffed and was taken to jail. Bail: $644.

— A 40-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 400 block of East William Street Wednesday at 3:50 a.m. He faces a misdemeanor charge of failure to pay fines, a warrant out of Walker River Justice Court. Bail: $2,202.

— A 49-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sept. 17, 8:02 p.m. and faces a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery.

According to the arrest report, officers went to a Debbie Way residence in reference to a report of a domestic dispute. Officers contacted the parent of the victim who said her daughter and herself were in the process of moving out of their home and that the suspect had been verbally aggressive to the daughter and mother, the arrest report states.

The mother instructed her daughter to use a video phone around the man, to record if he was to get aggressive. The video showed the man using an open hand to swing at the daughter holding the phone, knocking the phone out her hand.

Officers then spoke with the daughter who confirmed the information provided by her mother. She said that not only was the phone knocked out her hands by the suspect, but that the suspect had struck her left hand with his hand during the process.

Officers contacted the man at the intersection of Viking and Sherman and was advised that he was under arrest for battery. The man told the officer he had not battered anyone. The arresting officer informed the man that he had watched the video of the suspected battery and it was consistent with both statements of the mother and daughter. The man then stated that he "f***ed up," according to the arrest report. Bail: $3,137.

Those arrested and facing charges are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
