Chase International agent to appear on HGTV’s House Hunters

A new South Lake Tahoe couple brought along a little something special on their recent home search — a camera crew, an HGTV House Hunters crew, to be exact.

Travis and Morgan Fields were working with Chase International’s Angie Clark last spring when the Oakland couple decided to contact the popular show. Angie, already a huge fan, was immediately on board. The trio completed questionnaires and sent in audition tapes.

Mother bear, three cubs captured in Carson City released by Nevada wildlife agency

A black bear sow and her three male cubs were captured this week on the west side of Carson City by the Nevada Department of Wildlife. The four bears were safely released back in to the wild Friday morning in the Ash Canyon area west of Nevada’s capital city.

The bears were on the verge of becoming “conflict” bears before the capture. “They had been raiding garbage cans and searching for fallen fruit from trees,” said NDOW biologist Carl Lackey. “NDOW’s new family trap, which has multiple trap chambers, was used in the capture.”

Carson City sheriff's arrest log for Tuesday

A 43-year-old Carson City woman was arrested early Tuesday morning in the 700 block of Silver Oak Drive on a charge of first offense domestic battery, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, officers were called to the area after a witness observed the woman chase her boyfriend and batter him by slapping and punching him in the face.

The witness stated the woman’s boyfriend tried to defend himself, attempting to deflect her slaps and punches. The witness filled out a statement regarding what they saw.

Chase International agents attend inaugural Luxury Connect conference

A handful of Chase International agents recently attended Luxury Connect, a private, one-day gathering last month where elite professionals discussed the future of real estate. This first-ever event, spearheaded by Inman News, was held at the former William Randolph Hearst estate, the Beverly House.

The exclusive group consisted of only 100 real estate professionals and agents. Chase International founder, president and CEO Shari Chase attended with agents Kerry Donovan, Donna Spear, Trinkie Watson, Marian Huish, Mary Kleingartner, and Georgia Chase.

Arrest made after burglary victim chases man attempting to sell her stolen property

A woman who spotted a man attempting to sell coins that were stolen from her home in an Oct. 28 burglary, chased him out of a store and into the streets shortly after the Nevada Day Parade ended on Saturday where Carson City sheriff’s officers then found and arrested him.

Drake Vancleave, 50, was arrested on suspicion of six felony counts including receiving stolen property, obtaining money under false pretenses and burglary, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said. He is being held on $125,737 bail.

The Corral Loop at South Lake Tahoe

Last weekend we got up to South Lake Tahoe to check out some of the trails they’ve been building up there. To get to the trailhead, we headed south on Pioneer Trail road just past the Casinos, then east on Oneidas Street near Meyers. We followed Oneidas Street until it became a narrow Forest Service road known as Fountain Place Road. We parked just past the creek crossing at a trailhead parking area.

Reno real estate sales climb in third quarter

The Reno-area real estate market continues to rebound in the third quarter, with a 9 percent rise in sales volume and 14 percent jump in median home price, according to a Lake Tahoe-based real estate firm.

Home prices in Carson Valley were up, with a 10 percent jump in median price ($275,500) and six percent rise in average price ($315,115). Sales volume, however, was down three percent and units sold was down eight percent.

Mark Twain Elementary lockdown lifted after juveniles run from officers

UPDATE 1:30PM: The second juvenile who ran from sheriff's deputies this morning has been located. Officers are meeting with him and his parents, according to dispatch. He had led officers on a foot pursuit that went through neighborhoods, over fences and through backyards, and briefly led to a lock down at Mark Twain Elementary after the teenager was seen running through the school.

Authorities were called earlier to a business on Long Street after two juveniles were harassing owners and customers. When officers attempted to make contact with the juveniles, they ran.

About 5 miles away on the distant horizon, we could see black dots on the amazingly pure white, snow-covered, barren ground, 130 miles east of Tuktoyaktuk (Tuk), Northwest Territories, Canada.

Carson City man jailed for allegedly giving 14-year-old cocaine to hold

An 18-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday on three felony drug charges including suspicion of furnishing cocaine to a 14-year-old girl following a traffic stop, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Chase Morse was stopped by a sheriff’s sergeant at 5:47 p.m. in the 2600 block of Fairview Drive after he clocked the driver going 57 mph in a 35 mph zone. The officer asked for a K9 unit to respond because of a smell of marijuana in the vehicle.

Details emerge in capture of Carson City laundromat burglary suspect

A Carson City sheriff’s deputy has provided more details into Thursday’s burglary of Wash Tubs laundry in the 3100 block of Highway 50 East. A brief foot chase led to arrest of the suspect, Nicholas Stockwell, 22, who faces felony burglary and two misdemeanors charges. He is being held on $26,126 bail at Carson City Jail.

UPDATE: The Carson City Sheriff's Office has identified the man arrested for a burglary and chase this morning as Nicholas Stockwell, 22, of Carson City. He faces charges of Class B felony attempted burglary and misdemeanor charges of property damage and resisting a police officer.

Woman arrested after Highway 395 chase with NHP that went from Carson City to California

A police chase that began Tuesday morning on Highway 395 and Eastlake in Carson City ended near Bordertown in California north of the state line with the arrest of a Reno woman, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Melanie Marnne-Lawson, 53, was arrested after the vehicle pursuit, which began at around 9:30 a.m. and reached speeds in excess of 85 mph along Highway 395, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson. The chase began after a hit and run accident happened on Highway 395 and Eastlake in Carson City where a dark green Dodge pickup truck had rear ended another vehicle and fled the scene.

Fernley man dies in motorcycle crash after attempting to elude Churchill County deputy

A 23-year-old Fernley man died in a motorcycle crash Friday night in Fallon after attempting to elude deputies during a chase, a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper said.

Gregory L. Vasquez died at Banner Churchill Community Hospital where he was taken following the crash. The incident was reported at around 9 p.m. According to NHP, a deputy with the Churchill County Sheriff’s Office had seen the Vasquez, operating a black 2004 Honda motorcycle, commit a traffic violation on Harrigan Road. The deputy attempted to make an enforcement stop.

Carson City man jailed after police chase ends when car crashes into casino

What began as a battery investigation where a convenience store clerk was hit with a banana, ended with the arrest of a man after he crashed his vehicle into a natural gas line forcing the evacuation of a casino early Sunday morning, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Osvaldo Ruiz was arrested at 1:41 a.m. in the 2100 block of East Long Street after a vehicle and foot chase. He faces felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon, reckless driving willful conduct and eluding with endangerment as well as misdemeanor charges of DUI, obstructing and hit and run.

Lake Tahoe home sales down, but prices remain steady from January to June

Home sales throughout Lake Tahoe continued to slow throughout the first half of the year, while home prices remained steady, according to a quarterly report released by Lake Tahoe-based real estate company Chase International. Despite an 18 percent decline in overall sales volume, the figures are still significantly higher than those of 2012.

Suspect in Washoe Valley killings recently released from prison, tied to Arizona murder

Washoe County authorities have identified the man suspected of killing two women in Washoe Valley and say he may have also killed an Arizona man days after he was released from prison.

Anthony Gustave Nelson, 40, who had been released from prison in Arizona on June 2 for sexual assault, is the suspect in the deaths of two women, ages 68 and 70, and who led authorities on a chase from Carson City to Sand Mountain Recreation Area on Friday, June 13 in which he died in a shootout with deputies.

Reno police are now involved in the investigation involving Friday night's chase from Carson City to Sand Mountain Recreation Area in Churchill County in which a possible suspect in a double homicide earlier in Washoe Valley was killed during a shootout with authorities.
