New community baseball league starts in Carson City

The San Francisco Giants have come to Carson City. A new youth community baseball program with the backing of a Major League Baseball club opened for sign-ups earlier this month in the Nevada state capital.

The Junior Giants community league, run by the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department, is sponsored by the San Francisco Giants Community Fund, a charitable outreach of the professional sports franchise.

Suppose you drove the vehicle 10,000 miles for the year and 2,000 miles were documented for business use. 20 percent of the actual costs (gas, repairs, tires, insurance, license and depreciation) can be your deduction.

Honor Flight Nevada Fundraiser Saturday at Charlie's Grilled Subs

Robin McGregor, owner of Carson City Pottery with her husband, Rich, whimsically describes working with clay as feeling like a kid again.

Mark Cyr, Carson City officer in-charge. “If 10 people put one of those cards into one of our Red Kettles we can provide a family with a Christmas meal. That little bit of change can help 'change' one of your neighbors holiday.”

The Individual Income Tax Return, form 1040 allows for a deduction on Schedule A for charitable contributions. Bank of America Charitable Foundation gives Community Counseling Center $5,000 grant

The Bank of America Charitable Foundation Inc granted $5,000 to the Community Counseling Center in Carson City to help improve the quality of life in our community.

The Center wrote a request for support in its work in the jail as a member of the Forensic Assessment Treatment Team which aids in providing substance abuse evaluations and treatment for people in custody. The Center also provides seven recovery groups in the Carson City jail.

About 99.7 percent of folks who die do not need to file a U.S. Estate Tax Return, form 706. The exclusion (before adjusting for taxable gifts) is currently $5,430,000. That can be left without a federal death tax. Some states, about 19 of them, do have estate or inheritance taxes, but California, Florida and New York join Nevada in not having a state death tax.

Humane Society launches 'Community Cat' campaign to spay, neuter free-roaming cats

During the month of April, Nevada Humane Society will offer no-cost spay and neuter surgeries, plus free rabies vaccinations in Carson City and Washoe County as part of Community Cat, PetSmart Charities’ spay/neuter campaign to alter free-roaming cats.

If left unaltered, unowned feral and stray cats produce large quantities of unwanted kittens each spring, flooding local animal shelters and leading to higher euthanasia rates.

Entering into his 10th hour of nonstop speaking, Ian Hill said he was feeling fine. “It’s amazing that after nine-and-a-half hours, I still have all this energy,” he said.
