Nevada advocate for elderly, former Carson City Supervisor Janice Ayres dies
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 05/27/2013 - 11:38pmJanice R. Ayres, a tireless advocate for the elderly and the disabled, an unshakable Democrat and former member of the Carson City Board of Supervisors died Monday morning at Carson Tahoe Hospital after battling cancer. She was 92.
Ayres was the executive director of the Nevada Rural Counties RSVP Program, a position she held since 1979. RSVP Board member Charlie Abowd confirmed her passing and said directors will meet Tuesday afternoon to discuss arrangements.
Truck slams into power pole, Carson City man taken by CareFlight
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sat, 05/11/2013 - 4:34pmA Carson City man was taken by CareFlight to Renown Medical Center in Reno after the truck he was driving hit a power pole Saturday afternoon at the corner of Musser and Minnesota streets.
The condition of the man is unknown at this time. No other injuries were reported. The accident happened shortly before 4 p.m. The driver was conscious at the time he was taken by ambulance to the former Carson Tahoe Hospital site a few blocks from the accident scene where he was picked up by air ambulance.
The cause of the accident is unknown at this time.
Nevada Rural Housing Authority Mourns Death of Board Commissioner, Former Chairman, Vice Chairman, Tom Cook

Carson City deputies make several court warrant arrests
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 04/24/2013 - 5:07pmCarson City sheriff's deputies have made several court violation arrests since Monday. The arrests have been both misdemeanor and felony related. Arrests have also been made that involved domestic abuse, theft, driving under the influence of drugs and huffing.
Deputies arrested a 28-year-old transient with outstanding felony and gross misdemeanor warrants. Melanie Huddleston, was arrested early Wednesday morning, 3:16 a.m. at a casino in the 3800 block of Highway 50 East.
Rotary Club of Carson City Announces Winners of Second Annual Beer and Pizza Championships

The second annual Carson City Rotary Club Beer and Pizza Championships was a big success, raising more than $25,000 to assist with a number of community needs.
New Carson Tahoe Cardiology Office Expands Options for Reno Patients

The office is open Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm.
“We have been serving Reno patients looking for quality cardiology alternatives for several years,” said Dr. David Baker. “It is great to provide them with the convenience of our new location and we are excited to be able to offer our services to more of our new neighbors.”
Carson City man jailed on rape charge; bail set at $100,000
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 04/01/2013 - 2:12pmA 34-year-old Carson City man is being held on $100,000 bail and faces a felony charge of rape. Juan Hugo Rodriguez-Ramirez was arrested Friday, March 29, 7:35 p.m. in the 1300 block of North Edmonds.
He is accused of sexually assaulting a female victim on March 29. The victim, whose age was not provided, also told authorities that she was sexually assaulted on March 26 in Pomona, Calif., and on one other occasion, according to the arrest report. The victim was interviewed by detectives at Carson Tahoe Hospital.

Man jailed for hit and run near school, admits to taking six Ambien the night before
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sat, 03/09/2013 - 3:35pmA 36-year-old Carson City man faces misdemeanor charges of hit and run and driving while under the influence of drugs after admitting he had taken six Ambien the night before to help him sleep and then woke up to drive his children to school.
The man was arrested March 7, 8:37 a.m. at his home in the 400 block of Winnie Lane after witnesses provided a license plate number following a vehicle crash in which the man fled without stopping. He also reportedly crashed into a curb, losing his hubcaps and was seen driving on a sidewalk.
Carson City Emblem Club hosts March 16 St. Patrick's Day Dinner

Accident ties up traffic at Carson and Robinson streets
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 03/04/2013 - 6:02pmA two-vehicle accident Monday afternoon in Carson City was reported at Carson and Robinson streets with at least one person taken to the hospital.
The accident was reported at 4:32 p.m. and involved two SUVs, with one flipping over on its side. The occupant of the vehicle on its side was able to get out and appeared to not have any injuries. Another motorist was taken by ambulance to Carson Tahoe Hospital. She was awake, alert and breathing, according to dispatch.
Carson City sheriff's deputies make drug and burglary-related arrests

Two men were arrested Sunday and face felony charges after attempting to steal air compressors from a vacant Carson City building. Arrested were Geoffrey Earl Meudt, 39, of Gardnerville and Steven Walter Cozad, 30, of Wellington, Nev. Both are being held and face charges of being in possession of burglary tools and gross misdemeanor charges of conspiracy to commit theft.
Carson City brothers jailed; items from burglaries recovered

Kyle Canyon Curtis, 25, and his brother Matthew Blair Curtis, 21, face felony charges involving burglary and possession of stolen property.
Matthew Blair Curtis was arrested Feb. 19, 3:02 p.m. in the 1000 block of Carson Street. Kyle Curtis was arrested at the same time at the corner of Washington and North Carson streets.
Care Flight called to pedestrian accident involving vehicle
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 02/20/2013 - 8:49pmCarson City emergency crews responded Wednesday night to a vehicle accident involving a pedestrian near the intersection of Washington and Stewart streets.
A Care Flight helicopter was ordered because of at least one injured in the accident. The accident happened at around 7:40 p.m.
The condition of the pedestrian is unknown at this time. The Care Flight helicopter will take them to Renown Medical Center in Reno. The landing site for Care Flight was to be the former Carson Tahoe Hospital.
Carson City sheriff's deputies have re-routed traffic at Stewart and Washington streets.

Three transferred at Carson Tahoe after water pipes burst

Three patients were relocated to Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center and the flood was contained and stabilized. Repairs are expected to take about a week on the building section that was affected. No other patients will be relocated nor where there other services affected at the Carson Tahoe Specialty Medical Center, officials said.
