What a wonderful community we live in. Music, theater, hiking, biking, wining, dining, walking, TED-talking, animal loving, state governing, and so much more are available in our valley. The days are getting longer and there is so much in store for us in the coming weeks and months as we journey into summer. Take a good gander at my list of what’s going on in the Carson City area. It is always arranged chronologically by start time.

SATURDAY:

April showers are coming, but that just means brighter blooms. After this morning, there will be pinwheels sprouting from the lawn in front of the Legislature, and you are welcome to help in the planting. TEDxCarsonCity makes it's debut today: stream it online here if you weren't able to get tickets. Fathers and daughters are in for a treat at the Once Upon a Time Enchanted Ball at Carson High.

FRIDAY:

Feeling spicy? The weekend is almost here, so step out of your normal routine and try salsa lessons at El Charro Avita. If you’re in the mood to lounge and relax, crooner Jimmy Clifton at Living the Good Life pairs nicely with a martini. Red’s Old 395 has an incredible happy hour with half off draft beers today and a yummy menu. Rack ‘em up at Remedy’s free pool night. America’s favorite past time returns as the Reno Aces host opening night; someone buy me some Cracker Jack.

This beautiful weather is no April Fool’s joke, so get out and enjoy the sunshine. Ascent Runs begins their half marathon series today with a race through Carson Canyons, and it is sure to get your heart pumping. The Downtown Business Association wants to see you at today’s wine walk. Once you’re around Telegraph Street, you’ll see some throwbacks from a by-gone era courtesy of Naughty Tea Mistresses, the First Nevada Cavalry, and more.

Today may be April Fool’s Day, but this list is no joke. Need a good laugh? Improv night at the Brewery Arts Center is always a good bet. Or check out the comedy and wine ‘date night’ package at Alatte Coffee and Wine inside the Nugget. Sing your heart at with karaoke at Whiskey Tavern or Carson Lanes. The Lost Mountain Band at Casino Fandango will get you groovin. Living the Good Life is the place to be to help DJ Bobby G ring in another birthday.

The last day of March and we are all itching for some springtime weather. Luckily, we have some nice days ahead. Dust off that motorcycle and head down to Bike Night at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar. Enjoy an afternoon hike with Muscle Powered. The Kiwanis Club just pulled off their big annual Easter Egg Hunt and is always looking for civic minded community members to join: they meet every Thursday at Casino Fandango. If beer brewing is an interest, then check out the monthly meeting of the 395 Brewers at Just Brew It.

Spring has sprung. Days getting longer, flowers blooming, and now Easter weekend is upon us. Egg hunts, brunches, and even a parade are all part of the fun. Take a look at this weekend’s event summary for family fun, live music, and much more.

It's finally Friday and if you’re looking for a good time, there is something for you on this list. Let’s kick this weekend off with some great live music. • Western Nevada College Spring Break

Happy Thursday, Carson City. Spring break begins today and the sunny afternoon will probably be perfect for some kite-flying. School’s out, but the learning continues at the Nevada State Museum. This month’s installment of the Francis Humphrey Lecture Series focuses on the history of the U.S.S. Nevada. Music is a great way to slip into the weekend: check out the offerings at Living the Good Life, Glen Eagles, or Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint.

The spring thaw has arrived, and my event list is getting longer. Carson City has some fun stuff happening this weekend, so please take a look. If you haven’t made it to see Wild Horse Children’s Theater’s production of Disney’s The Aristocats, Kids, or the Carson High spring musical, ‘Kiss Me, Kate.’ what are you waiting for? Keep your eyes peeled for Girl Scouts, this is the last weekend of cookie sales.

I hope everyone had a great time yesterday. I also hope you are ready for the party to continue. The Brewery Arts Center has Celtic duo Men of Worth playing in the Black Box Theater, folk singer/songwriter Liam Kyle Cahill is at Living the Good Life, you'll find the Whitehats performing at the West Side Pour House, and Sassafras has a night of rock with Year of the Fist and Double Header. Those who love dance should check out World Dance Open Floor at Comma Coffee or the West Coast Swing night that Yaple's Ballroom hosts every third Friday. Let's kick off this weekend right, Carson City.

Saint Patrick was a gentleman, who through strategy and stealth, drove all the snakes from Ireland, here’s a toasting to his health. But not too many toastings, lest you lose yourself and then, forget the good Saint Patrick and see all those snakes again! Happy St. Patrick’s Day, Carson City. There are some great parties going on around town, check out the list to find them all. Don’t forget to designate a sober driver or call a taxi if whiskey or green beer are part of the day’s plan.

St. Patrick’s Day is around the corner and the celebrations have begun. The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada has crafts and Irish dancers. Carson Lanes is hosting their annual Pot of Gold Tournament. The Downtown Reno Leprechaun Crawl is always a crazy time. Take a look at this weekend summary to find the fun for miles around.

Ready to blow off some steam? Carson City offers some great ways to let the workweek fade away. If it’s date night, check out the great deal on Comedy and Wine at Alatte inside the Carson Nugget. Enjoy some rhythm and blues with Catfish Carl at Bella Fiore or explore your inner artist at Mona Lisa and Wine. A Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint favorite, Groove Session, is back for another fun show.

Ready to ‘Give where you live’? Nevada’s Big Give online fundraising drive is today, so pick your favorite local non-profit and pledge $10 or more dollars to get them on their way. The WNC Foundation will be throwing a party at Alatte inside the Carson Nugget with drink specials and more if they’re the one you choose. Learn a little about our majestic mountain views at the Douglas County Historical Society’s Second Thursday lecture. Living the Good Life and Glen Eagles have dinner music for you. An afternoon treat is best found at Yogurt Beach: all proceeds help the family of three year old Maya Morrison battling leukemia. Happy Thursday, Carson City. If you need a reason to get out of the house, look no further. Learn something new at one of the lectures tonight: Nicholas Clapp, author of ‘Dancing with the Devil: Virginia City’ at the Gold Hill Hotel or head to the Nevada State Museum to learn about the first fabricator of Levi’s jeans, Nevada’s own J.W. Davis. Take in some amazing views with Muscle Powered as they hike the Pine Nut Mountains. The talented band students from throughout the district come together tonight at Band-o-Rama in the Carson High School Gym. Read the whole list and find your fun.

Got kids? Plenty of fun awaits. Start out at Dunkin Donuts for their Community Celebration complete with face painting and more. Love on a Leash at the Carson City Library will give them a chance to practice their reading skills with a non-judgmental furry friend. If you’re a performer yourself, then A to Zen’s open mic might be your style. Dancers will want to strut their stuff at the monthly World Dance Open Floor at Comma Coffee. Release your inner rock star with karaoke at Carson Lanes or Whiskey Tavern.

The International Film Weekend has returned for the third year and brings a bit of multiculturalism with it. Spend the afternoon in Marlette Hall at Western Nevada College to see what some local filmmakers have created, and then head over to the Community Center for tonight’s film ‘Cherry Blossoms.’ This is a free event and just gets bigger and better. Check out the Career Expo highlighting the Career and Technical Education program at Carson High; it’s open to the public and students. Take a gander at the list for all of today’s options.

It’s Presidents Day weekend with a Valentine’s Day cherry on top. There is still time for some shopping if you’re looking for something for your special someone. Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery hosts its annual Champagne and Jewelry party Saturday and offers some amazing hand-crafted bling for your sweetheart. Carson Mall is another great bet for last minute gifts. Several crafters, vendors, and shops make it easy to find something unique. The annual Feast of Chocolate returns to the Plaza Event Center; raising funds for scholarships has never tasted so good.

SATURDAY:

It's time to kick off this three-day weekend. Satiate your sweet tooth at the Boys and Girls Club; high school senior Larrissa Cruzan has organized a bake sale. Head downtown to check out the Grand Opening reception at Charlie B Gallery on West Telegraph. Stick around for the great band playing at Westside Pour House or have some dinner at one the nearby restaurants. Party Mardi Gras style at Remedy’s and wear something black light reactive.

FRIDAY:

Okay all you procrastinators, if you planned on making it to the Arlington Square Ice Rink, then today is your last chance. With a temperature around 50, it should be a perfect day to skate one last time. Show some Senator Pride tonight at the Community Center as 24 seniors compete for ‘Mr. Carson High.’ There’s a lot going on this weekend, so take a look at the list and go have some fun.

Friday has arrived, Carson City. Kick off the weekend with live music at Westside Pour House, Living the Good Life, Glen Eagles, or Sassafras. Capital City Arts Initiative is proud to welcome a new exhibit to their gallery in the Carson City Courthouse. Check out the new exhibit and hear from the artist, Jeff Hantman, tonight at the opening reception. Laugh it up with Ester Steinberg at Carson Comedy in the Nugget or head to the Brewery Arts Center for an evening of Improv with special guests the Reno Improv Group.

Batten down the hatches, Carson City, there’s a storm a’brewin. Feed your need for culture at the Brewery Arts Center where you’ll find Kenny Arnold’s exhibit ‘Free Your Soul.’ The Metropolitan Opera ‘Turandot’ plays live at the Galaxy Theater. Or enjoy Carson High School’s last performance of ‘And Then They Came for Me: Remembering the World of Anne Frank.’

SATURDAY:

It’s the last weekend of January: where does the time go? Head out to one of our local hot spots for some food, fun, and friends. The Brewery Arts Center is a triple threat tonight with the Carson High School play, an artist’s show and reception, and bluegrass band: the Dusty Green Bones. Enjoy Josh and Jenera at Living the Good Life while you dine, then stick around for DJ Bobby G. Wish Sassafras a happy birthday at their new location with local favorites, the Trippin King Snakes.
