Carson City firefighters save dog in second floor fire at St. Charles

UPDATE 4:50PM: Jim Phalan, owner of The Fox Brewpub, said they are now back open for business. He said the sprinklers from the second story flooded the brewery and parts of the walk-in refrigeration, and they had to throw away a lot of food. They also lost most of their lunch business for the day.

"I am sure there is ceiling damages, I just do not know how much at this point," Phalan said. "But we didn't lose any beer."

He also thanked the first responders for saving the dog and the hotel. "Who knows how much worse it could have been," he said.

On Tuesday afternoon at 12:16 p.m., Carson City Fire units were dispatched to a structure fire at 310 S. Carson Street, the St. Charles Residential Hotel.

I ride a bike everyday of the week. It's already hard enough trying to use what bike lanes that are provided. When it snows it makes it impossible. There is snow on the sidewalks and in the bike lanes. So, why can't the city do something about it? The people who are on wheels can't use the sidewalks. So we the people in Carson city should speak up and voice our opinions and don't be afraid to say something. Thank you, Mr. Michael Rumsey

Carson City Public Works clears drainages, opens sand bag locations ahead of storm

The National Weather Service is forecasting a strong wet winter storm event which may impact the Carson City area from Wednesday, Feb. 13, to Thursday, Feb. 14.

Recent storms left many storm drains blocked by snow. Storm preparation efforts are underway. Carson City Public Works crews are currently assessing drain inlets, opening storm drains and plowing the streets.

UPDATE 1:02PM: A dog was revived after being found unconscious and rescued after suffering smoke inhalation and was taken to a veterinarian hospital due to a small fire at St. Charles Hotel, said Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon. The fire was contained to one room and was quickly extinguished. No injuries were reported.

Man arrested after attacking woman, calling a child racist slurs, and pretending to stab himself

A 40-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the area of N. Mountain Street and W. Nye Lane Monday night for suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery and DUI after allegedly calling a child racist slurs, body slamming a woman, pretending to stab himself in the leg with a kitchen knife, threatening to commit suicide by cop and fleeing the scene with a BB gun.

Carson City Historical Society Celebrates 50 Years

CCHS Board members and volunteers celebrate 50th anniversary.

Following a Carson City Historical Society Board meeting on Feb. 11, Board members gathered for a little celebration of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the CCHS.

The Nevada Landmarks Society (NLS) was founded on February 11, 1969, in order to preserve the Roberts House, the yellow Gothic Revival-style house at 1207 North Carson St., now known as the Foreman-Roberts House. The NLS later became the Carson City Historical Society.
