The Class of 2020-2021, while practicing social distancing and wearing the latest fashion in face masks, gathered together at 6:00 a.m. Sept. 4 on the bleachers of the CHS football field to watch their sun rise.

PHS is accredited through AdvancED and has been recognized by the Nevada Department of Education as a “Highlighted School” for achievement in 2011 and 2018. Parents need to submit their intent of preferred learning for their students by Wednesday Aug. 5 so that their student's school will know how to prepare.

School districts in Northern Nevada region establish school reopening plans, safety models

A new directive by the state of Nevada requires school districts to submit three reopening plans for the upcoming school year. The three plans include one for complete in-person instruction, one for hybrid instruction and one for all-distance learning.

The trustees also voted to update the 2020-2021 Academic School Calendar, moving the official first day of school for students to begin Monday, Aug. 24, a week later than the day previously set for Monday, Aug. 17.

Families are also given the option of 100 percent distance learning, but there is no option at this time for 100 percent in school learning, except for certain special education students.

According to the Carson City Health Officer, Dr. Susan Pintar, immunization rates have been falling since the COVID-19 shut down, some places in the country as much as 40 percent, due to the fear of seeking medical help during the time of COVID-19.
