Bring some art into your new year with one of our many art exhibits. The Nevada Artist Association has just switched up their gallery and has a New Year’s show to offer you. The group also works with the Carson Visitor Bureau and showcases a different artist each month in the Visitors’ Center: currently Bob Hickox. Comma Coffee is hosting a reception this evening for the January artist in their revolving Backseat Gallery, so head down at 5 p.m. for some finger food and the unveiling.

Join Capital City Arts Initiative in the Sierra Room of the Community Center; an artist reception for Claudia Knous begins at 10 a.m. Heads up, you’ll need to park on the east side of the building. Enjoy our award winning high school band, Blue Thunder, as they perform a winter concert in the Bob Boldrick Theater. They will be joined by the school’s orchestra as well.

After a long delay from the manufacturer, Carson City Health and Human Services says the FluMist nasal spray vaccine option is now available at both our Carson City and Douglas County clinic locations.

Carson City Health and Human Services will host flu vaccination clinics this Thursday and next Tuesday as it continues to help build community immunity. By getting a flu vaccine this year, citizens are not only protecting themselves but others from falling ill to the flu.

Happy Wednesday, Carson City. One of my favorite weekends of the year is just around the corner. Nevada Day is something special here in the capital city: the parade, beard contest, fam fest, and so much more. Parade day falls on Oct. 31 this year, and when that happens, trick or treating in Carson City gets bumped up a day to Friday. Carson City will break ground on the new Animal Services facility today, at 9:30 a.m. Attending the ceremony will be Carson City Public Works officials, the City Board of Supervisors, Carson Animal Services Initiative, and representatives of the Nevada Humane Society. The facility will be located on Airport Road in Carson, just south of the intersection of Airport Road and Butti Way. The public is invited.

The last day of September, already? You know that means all things pumpkin begins tomorrow. Take time today to enjoy the jazz jam at Sassafras, or live music at Living the Good Life. City management would love to get your input on what they are calling the ‘Greening of William Street.’ So, if you have any ideas about how you would incorporate trees into the Hwy 50 corridor, please head to the Community Center at noon.

Luckily for Carson City, there are numerous great places to get a cup of joe: Comma Coffee, Dutch Bros., Carson Coffee, Cracker Box... the list goes on. Celebrate National Coffee Day however and where ever you’d like. New to Tuesdays in town are a five course Basque dinner at Capital Eats inside Westside Pour House with a new offering each week. Reservations are recommended if you don’t want to miss it.

Carson City health department announces 2015 flu season community vaccination events

The first week of October marks the official start of flu season in the United States. Beginning in October and lasting through May, flu season is the period when flu germs are most likely to be circulating and to make people sick.

It’s fireworks Friday here in Carson City. Harley Davidson is throwing a party for Street Vibrations with live music, vendors and more. Look to the sky around 8:30 p.m. to catch the fireworks show. Spruce up your resume and head to the Community Center. A job fair with more than 50 employers opens its doors to the public at 2 p.m. Go Big Blue! The varsity football game against Hug High School starts at 7 p.m. following the Homecoming Float Parade. Catch some live music at Living the Good Life or Westside Pour House. You’ll find a reason to laugh at Carson Comedy inside the Carson Nugget.

Jump into the sud-soaked fray that is Geeks Who Drink Trivia at Lake Tahoe Brewing Company. And ladies can expect something special at the Ormsby Club and the Carson Cigar Company.
