Nevada Day Parade 2015: One State, Many Cultures celebrated in photos

Only in Nevada does a state throw a party in its capital city and everyone is invited. And so it is with the celebration Saturday of the Silver State's 151st birthday in Carson City.
Nevadans from north, south, east west and central make the annual pilgrimage to the state capital to honor and celebrate statehood which came, Oct. 31, 1864.

Nevada Day tradition dishes pancakes at Governor's Mansion, Masonic lodge and Red's Old 395

A Nevada Day tradition, the annual pancake breakfast at the Governor’s Mansion is hosted by the Carson City Republican Women’s Club. Proceeds go toward scholarships of $1,000 each to two deserving seniors from Carson and Dayton High Schools.

Are you ready for this? Nevada Day weekend has arrived and brings with it a downtown filled with friends, neighbors, and fun. On Wednesday, October 21, Jan Loverin, who has served as curator of the Nevada State Museum’s Marjorie Russel Clothing and Textile Center for over 30 years, will share her extensive expertise on the ‘intimate’ history of men’s and women’s underwear with the Leisure Hour Club. This event will be a perfect way to begin Nevada Day celebrations and will provide an entertaining look at a topic that is ‘never discussed in public.’

Sunday, August 23: Things to do around Carson City

Planes, trains, and automobiles await! The Nevada State Railroad Museum features rides on the McKeen Motor Car this weekend. Don’t miss out on a trip to Virginia City via the Virginia and Truckee Steam Train: locals get a discount on Sundays when they book online. Ormsby Post Acute Care is hosting a classic car show for their residents, so if you have an automobile that fits the bill, please head on over. The Minden-Tahoe Airport is the home to Aviation Roundup Air Show this weekend. You won’t want to miss the USAF Thunderbird Flight Team. Also on some fierce wheels this Sunday are the Carson Victory Rollers. Our roller derby team is hosting a scrimmage and collecting donations of school supplies at the Community Center.

I Love Carson City's Weekend Event Summary: August 22-23

Hold on to your hats, Carson City, summer isn’t ready to quit us just yet. An aviation air show at the Minden Airport, the coin show and fair at the Nevada State Museum, and a fishing derby for the kids at Little Washoe Lake are only the tip of the iceberg. The Pavilion at Mills Park is where you’ll find the annual Carson High Football Boosters Fundraising BBQ. The Quicksilver Dog Agility Trials are always fun to watch, and they’ll be at Fuji Park all weekend. Carson Lanes has family fun indoors and out all day long during their Bowling Blast-off.

Final days for Jazz & Beyond Festival

The Jazz & Beyond - Carson City Music Festival concludes with nine events on Saturday, August 22, and four events on Sunday August 23.

Concert at the Mansion August 14 to benefit Carson High School Culinary Arts Program

Join the Elks Lodge 2177 for a Benefit Dinner and Concert at the Governor’s Mansion on Friday, August 14, 2015. Proceeds benefit the Carson High School Culinary Arts Program.

The event features Horse Crazy Cowgirl Band.

The program begins at 4:30 p.m. with a Social Hour and a Cash Bar. Tickets are $30 for concert and $7 for dinner.

Dinner features delicious sirloin burgers, jumbo hot dogs, and a buffet of homemade salads and deserts.

'Mr. Pickles' Presents to Carson City Leisure Hour Club

Foundation to raise money for Carson City schools

A foundation to help raise money for the Carson City School District will be launched next week during a reception at Carson High School.

“Our only mission is to support the kids in the community,” said Ian Hill, chairman of the foundation’s board. “For the first time, we’re going to be joining together all the people who care deeply about the Carson City School District.”
