Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Mon, 01/13/2014 - 9:27amCapital Business Network (CBN) meets every Wednesday. The meetings include a breakfast of your choice. The meetings are structured, but informal, and afford each member a chance to offer a short business commercial.
In addition, each member delivers a 10 minute presentation about his or her business to the general membership approximately once per quarter. Business issues, upcoming events, mixers, community events, trade shows, etc are discussed each week. Referrals are exchanged by the members and ideas are offered.
Mayor to present 2014 State of the City to Carson City Chamber of Commerce
Submitted by editor on Thu, 01/09/2014 - 9:54amCarson City Mayor Robert Crowell will present the State of the City address, with the theme "New Year: New Opportunities," on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, 7:30 a.m. at the Carson Nugget. The event is presented by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce.
The cost is $20 per person. RSVP prior to Feb. 3 by calling (775) 882-1565.

John St. Suite G. A continental breakfast is available starting at 9:30am for a small donation.
Parking is available in the back. Please enter by the ajar door. The featured speaker is Dennis Meyers a news editor for the Reno News and Review. Plans for the March 15th History Tea will also be discussed. This History Tea coincides with the city's 150th celebration.

The monthly meetings help Bonkowski get input on important issues in an informal setting.

It was a fun-filled day that you might want to replicate in the near future, before Old Man Winter arrives with all of his cold, frost, snow and ice.
Builder's Association of Western Nevada give helping hand to homeowners with repair needs
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sat, 11/09/2013 - 3:25pmAll hands were on board Saturday as the Women's Council of the Builder's Association of Western Nevada answered the call to help two Carson City homeowners in need of upgrades and repairs.
Ramsey Circle homeowner Nora McGinley fought back tears as a team of local contractors with power tools and building materials arrived at her doorstep with one mission in mind: Lending a helping hand to a good neighbor.
"I'm so grateful. It's just wonderful to know there are people in our community who go out of their way on a Saturday to do something like this," said McGinley. "It's more than I ever imagined."
Nevada 150 Celebrates Veterans Day with Statewide Events

Nevada residents and visitors are invited to join the celebration and demonstrate patriotism by honoring those who have fought for Nevada and the Country’s freedoms.
Carson City Raiders Booster annual fundraiser and auction this Sunday at Carson Lanes
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 11/06/2013 - 8:55amThe Carson City Raiders Booster Club's annual fundraiser and auction is this coming Sunday, Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Carson Lanes Eleventh Frame Lounge, 4600 Snyder Avenue.
All proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to purchase Christmas gifts for 20 homebound seniors in the community (our list of seniors and their modest wish lists are supplied to us by the Meals on Wheels program).
Each year our members shop, wrap, deliver and visit each home bound senior on our list. It's always a heart-warming experience to help make these seniors' holidays more merrier.
Carson City Shade Tree Council's 22nd Annual Fall Tree Care Seminar

This year's seminar is packed with speakers not to miss. Lake Tahoe ski resorts rejoice with first significant snow of the season

Anticipation for additional snowfall along with summer investments pays winter dividends at Tahoe South this season. Millions of capital expenditures at the three area ski resorts this year will complement revitalization efforts throughout town to create new options on where to stay, play and dine during the 2013-14 season.
The Nevada Day 2013 celebration continues all weekend long

Through many years of living in Carson City, I have enjoyed many of the activities associated with the celebration of our state's admission to the Union, way back on October 31, 1864.

Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 10/16/2013 - 9:23pmElaine and I recently returned from an interesting, three-day, two-night visit to Elko, way over in Northeastern Nevada. We are both members of the Board of Directors of the Nevada Operation Game Thief (OGT) Citizens Board.
That OGT Citizens Board has been in existence since 1987, and it is the small, private group that pays rewards for information that leads to the conviction of poachers of Nevada's wildlife.

Carson City Street Vibrations changes gears to be more family friendly

Silver Saddle Ranch Breakfast & Bird Walk

A bird trip will precede the breakfast, starting at 7:30am. Everyone is welcome. We will be exploring agricultural fields, the Carson River corridor and sagebrush habitats for a variety of resident and migratory species.

Outdoors with Don Q: Take a Canadian vacation trip for 2014

This week, I would like to offer a suggestion for taking a 2014 vacation trip beginning in Smithers, British Columbia, traveling to Watson Lake in the Yukon and returning to Smithers.
It will basically replicate the trip we took, after our return to Smithers from staying at the Ookpik Wilderness Lodge. If you are interested and if you have the vacation time, you might want to consider a 2014 Canadian vacation trip.
Sierra Nevada Amateur Radio Society meets this Saturday

Everyone with an interest in ham radio is invited. A special door prize, the 2013 ARRL handbook – a $49 value, will be given away.

The Fly-In is officially open from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday and there will be a pancake breakfast each day, free to pilots who fly in, from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.

The first time was about 15 years ago, when Elaine and her late husband Jim McGee and I went there to film Canadian fishing experiences for our weekly TV show.

Hosted by Soroptimist International of Carson City, ASCE, Carson Tahoe Hospital and Tahoe Carson Radiology, the tournament features raffle prizes, contests, games, 2 hole-in-one prizes, closest to the pin and lowest and highest score prizes.
The cost is $85 and includes golf and cart, a continental breakfast and barbecue.
Check-in begins at 8 a.m. with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
