With sunny skies and daytime highs in the 50s, Tuesday is shaping up to be a great day around the capital city. Muscle Powered will host morning and evening walks, plus there's an assortment of meetings, club gatherings, art showings, a local school board meeting and more. At the end of the day, there's no better way to cap off the evening than by celebrating, with your sweetheart, music about love. That will be what's happening at Living the Good Life as Mile High Jazz Band and our celebrated vocalist Jakki Ford will do just that presenting "Jazz Sampler for Sweethearts." Read on for details.

Happy Saturday Carson City! It’s going to be another beautiful day in the capital city, so make sure the get your sunshine while you can!

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region over the next three days. Dozens of sweets are in store for Saturday. The American Association of University Women holds its 20th annual Feast of Chocolate at the Carson Plaza and Event Center. Artsy Fartsy Gallery hosts its 9th annual Jewelry and Chocolate Show with several new decorative pieces. To cap-off Saturday, the legendary Cab Calloway Orchestra makes its way to the capital city.

The Feb 11 morning walk is at the Carson City Freeway Multi-Use Path-Retail Drive. Meet in front of Starbucks at 3325 Retail Drive off College Parkway.

The Thursday, Feb. 13 hike is at the Clear Creek Trail, lower end. Meet at the trailhead for the Clear Creek trail, 1/2 mile west of Jacks Valley Elementary School on Jacks Valley Road, 1.8 miles west of Hwy 395.

The Tuesday, Feb. 11 event is at the Carson Tahoe Medical Loop/Wellness Mile. Meet in the parking lot opposite Pesti Lane on Medical Parkway. We will walk on Medical Parkway around the hospital, and on neighborhood sidewalks around the hospital. Flashlight required.

Heading into Tuesday, the capital city will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Carson City Mint with events throughout the day. Other activities include a morning and evening walk hosted by Muscle Powered, a dinner fundraiser for the Roman family at Pizza Factory, a community dinner and meeting invite to the Order of Eastern Star, a showing at the BAC of the 1941 film classic "The Lady Eve" and a concert featuring the Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus with violin soloist Elizabeth Pitcairn at Shepherd-Sierra Lutheran Church. During the annual “State of the City” address Friday at Gold Dust West, Carson City’s Mayor Bob Crowell gave his last speech of its kind, as he is retiring at the end of this year.

The State of the City address is a way community members can be kept up to date on everything going on in our capital city, including achievements, challenges, and everything in between.

Updates included achievements such as the completion of the water pipeline from Douglas County to Carson City, the Complete Streets Project, Tesla’s grant for the Carson City School District, the first new park opening in 12 years, the opening of the Disc Golf course, and more.

CARSON CITY — Congratulations to Yahir Herrera, third grader from Mark Twain Elementary School, and Adria Bass, a kindergartner from Bordewich Bray Elementary School. Both were awarded prizes for their parents’ participation in a survey designed to develop a School Safety Review Study.
