On Wednesday, Dec. 16, Bethlehem Lutheran School in Carson City hosted their annual school Geography Bee. Contestants from 4th-8th Grade competed for the championship.

The school champion was 8th grader Nathan Tack. Runner-up was 7th Grader Pranesh Mondal.

On Friday, Dec. 4, Bethlehem Lutheran School in Carson City hosted their annual school Spelling Bee. The following winners were crowned:

The Carson City School District’s Board of Trustees is pleased to announce nine student winners of the 19th Annual American Citizen Essay Contest. Each winner will be recognized at the school board meeting Tuesday, Nov. 24, and will received the following cash prizes: First Place: $80, Second Place: $30 and Third Place: $15. Nevada Commission for Women and the Nevada Women’s Suffrage Celebration Committee formed to help facilitate collaboration among organizations in Nevada to celebrate and commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment. As part of her Carson High School Senior Project graduation requirement, student, and committee member, Chloe Walt is working to educate Nevadans on the suffrage movement and the historic importance of the ratification of the 19th Amendment.

Looking ahead to Wednesday, we can expect sunny skies and continued highs in the mid-50s. Midweek events include a Dayton chamber breakfast with the founder of the Desert Pigs cleanup nonprofit group. Plus there's the first of 5 days of Valentine-themed festivities that begins at Carson Mall; an open house at Bethlehem Lutheran School, a CASA information hour, a Carson City School District meeting regarding proposed middle school zone modification. Plus there's a yoga class, Salsa dancing at Yaple's Ballroom, country and pop dancing at Carson Lanes, a safety workshop for women and more.

On Wednesday, Jan. 29, students from Carson City schools met for the county Spelling Bee. The winner of each grade level of the bee will now move on the the State Spelling Bee in Las Vegas on March 21. The Carson City winners were:

Sierra Lutheran High School and Bethlehem Lutheran School are taking part this week in a countrywide celebration of National Lutheran Schools Week.

Sierra Lutheran High School and Bethlehem Lutheran School will be two of the schools showcased at the National School Choice Fair on Saturday, February 1, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Whitney Peak Hotel in Reno.

Earlier this month Bethlehem Lutheran School in Carson City hosted its all-school spelling bee and have announced the winning spellers.

Wreaths created by parents and supporters of Bethlehem Lutheran School in Carson City will be available beginning Monday through Friday, Dec. 13, 2019. Tickets are available in the school office. They are $1 each or 25 for $20.

The American Citizen Essay winners are in, and they all have one thing in common: cash prizes. This year, the Carson City School District Board of Trustees selected the topic, “An early motto of the United States was e pluribus unum, which means ‘out of many, one,’ so how do we embrace diversity and inclusiveness to come together as one country?”

A student-led canned food drive for Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH, was met with a challenge by the staff of Carson City's Bethlehem Lutheran School.

This past weekend, Bethlehem Lutheran School of Carson City sent their boys cross country team to compete in the National Lutheran Cross Country Championships held at Concordia University in Mequon, Wisconsin.

Nathan Tack, a 6th grader at Carson City's Bethlehem Lutheran School, has been notified by the National Geographic Society that he is one of the semifinalists eligible to compete in the 2019 National Geographic GeoBee Nevada State Competition.

The 2019 Spelling Bee is underway, and Carson City will be sending four young people to the Nevada State Bee which will be held in Las Vegas on March 9.

Our Local Bee was held January 30 at Bethlehem Lutheran School. Representing Carson City will be 5th grader Noel White from Bethlehem Lutheran School, 6th grader Samantha Badger from Carson Montessori, 7th grader Emily Phillips from St. Teresa of Avila and 8th grader Hayden Steyn from Bethlehem Lutheran School.

Samantha and Hayden are repeat winners from last year and look forward to advancing further in the bee this year.

On Friday, Dec. 7, Bethlehem Lutheran School announced the winners of their all school Spelling Bee.

Well, so much for spring. Stay warm today as the wind whips into town. It’s National Library Week, and the Carson City Library isn’t shirking its duties with the Lego Club, Story time, and a sewing class in its Makerspace all happening today. They have also brought in renown speaker, author, and innovator Milton Chen to lead a panel discussion on education inside of the Brewery Arts Center’s Performance Hall.

Nathan Tack, a Bethlehem Lutheran fifth grader, won the school-level competition of the National Geography Bee held this week. His win over 8th grader, Parsa Hadjighasemi, who finished second, qualifies him for a chance at an eventual first place prize of a $50,000 scholarship.

On Friday, Dec. 1, Bethlehem Lutheran in Carson City held its annual School Spelling Bee. In the 3rd-5th grade Bee, Alexandra Highley took first place while fending off eight other contestants.

As Sierra Lutheran’s winter sports season begins, they are looking back and celebrating the last Fall NIAA sport to finish its season - Academic Olympics. 



Over Thanksgiving break, AO teams from around the region travelled to Eureka for the State Championship. Sierra Lutheran’s team members are the Regional Champions, winning the Western Division by a margin of 10 points. Quite a feat, considering how strong the Western Division is - Whittell, the team ranked 3rd regionally, was the State Champion.

A momentous congratulations goes out to the students who voluntarily and competitively placed in the 2017 Carson City School Board Sponsored American Citizen Essay Contest with first place at the high school level going to CHS 9th grade Honors English student Marissa Messmann, second place to CHS 12th grade College Readiness Senior English student Jessica Preston, and third place going to 9th grade Honors English student Matteas Klatt.
