Each winner will be recognized at the school board meeting Tuesday, Nov. 24, and will received the following cash prizes: First Place: $80, Second Place: $30 and Third Place: $15. Nevada Commission for Women and the Nevada Women’s Suffrage Celebration Committee formed to help facilitate collaboration among organizations in Nevada to celebrate and commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment. As part of her Carson High School Senior Project graduation requirement, student, and committee member, Chloe Walt is working to educate Nevadans on the suffrage movement and the historic importance of the ratification of the 19th Amendment.

Midweek events include a Dayton chamber breakfast with the founder of the Desert Pigs cleanup nonprofit group. Plus there's the first of 5 days of Valentine-themed festivities that begins at Carson Mall; an open house at Bethlehem Lutheran School, a CASA information hour, a Carson City School District meeting regarding proposed middle school zone modification. Plus there's a yoga class, Salsa dancing at Yaple's Ballroom, country and pop dancing at Carson Lanes, a safety workshop for women and more.

Our Local Bee was held January 30 at Bethlehem Lutheran School. Representing Carson City will be 5th grader Noel White from Bethlehem Lutheran School, 6th grader Samantha Badger from Carson Montessori, 7th grader Emily Phillips from St. Teresa of Avila and 8th grader Hayden Steyn from Bethlehem Lutheran School.
Samantha and Hayden are repeat winners from last year and look forward to advancing further in the bee this year.

It’s National Library Week, and the Carson City Library isn’t shirking its duties with the Lego Club, Story time, and a sewing class in its Makerspace all happening today. They have also brought in renown speaker, author, and innovator Milton Chen to lead a panel discussion on education inside of the Brewery Arts Center’s Performance Hall.

His win over 8th grader, Parsa Hadjighasemi, who finished second, qualifies him for a chance at an eventual first place prize of a $50,000 scholarship.

Falcons Academic Olympics Closes Out Strong Fall Sports Season for SLHS

Over Thanksgiving break, AO teams from around the region travelled to Eureka for the State Championship. Sierra Lutheran’s team members are the Regional Champions, winning the Western Division by a margin of 10 points. Quite a feat, considering how strong the Western Division is - Whittell, the team ranked 3rd regionally, was the State Champion.
