Fingers crossed, we’ve got a few days without the wet stuff. This winter seems like the song that never ends. We received late word that Saturday's monthly Trash Mob has been canceled. The good news is there's a day-long music fest at the Carson Colony Gym on South Curry is fundraising for the DAPL Water Protectors. Music, art, cinema, comedy and more are on tap for this weekend. SATURDAY:

As this storm system moves in, it makes it difficult for list-makers, such as myself. I cannot predict which of these events will be affected or cancelled because of the snow. The show must go on for the kids of Youth Theater Carson City. ‘The Lion King, Jr.’ is in its final weekend of performances.

The countdown continues. Just one weekend is separating us from Christmas, so go enjoy the friends, family, and holiday cheer that surround us. The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada welcomes a special visit from Santa and offers fun crafts for the kids. Browse the sale in their gift shop and consider a membership for a year full of free entry. The talented kids of All About Dance perform at the CVIC Hall in Minden. Let’s just call this Nevad-oween weekend. So much crazy fun awaits: whether it’s the celebration of our ‘new’ downtown, Halloween parties for kids and adults alike, or our State Museum’s 75th Anniversary. Start your day at the Museum, hang around for the downtown ribbon cutting and festivities, then join in the costumed fun as Blinky Man hits the streets. Do the time warp at the Brewery Arts Center: the Rocky Horror Picture Show Party starts at 8:30 p.m. This is going to be one amazing weekend, so let’s get this party started.

Area cancer patients will benefit from funds raised at the sixth annual HopeFest concert held Friday night at Carson-Tahoe Cancer Center in Carson City.

The Carson Tahoe Health Foundation is pleased to be teaming up with local dining favorites, The Cracker Box in Carson City and Js’ Old Town Bistro in Dayton, for a day of support for local cancer patients in need, and to kick off HopeFest6, a rockin’ benefit concert to be held the following week at the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center.

GARDNERVILLE, Nev. – Oakland Raiders offensive line coach, Mike Tice, is bringing his annual Carson Valley friends and family golf outing benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada to the public this year.

Midnight Madness has descended upon the valley, bringing with it a 72 hour softball tournament at Centennial Park. Don’t be surprised to see more cyclists on the road: an unofficial pre-ride for Epic Rides is this weekend. Head to the Nevada State Railroad Museum to see the Glenbrook all steamed up. April showers are coming, but that just means brighter blooms. After this morning, there will be pinwheels sprouting from the lawn in front of the Legislature, and you are welcome to help in the planting. After working as a chef for more than 30 years, Anthony Fish still hasn’t decided on a favorite food. Lucky for him, as the owner of the popular Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint, he doesn’t have to.

Ready, set, GO! Whether you want to watch camels race, or hot air balloons light up the sky, this is a great weekend in Northern Nevada. If cool cars are more your style, join the Freaks of Nature Car Club at a show and shine in the parking lot of Yogurt Beach in North Carson. It’s root, root, root for the home team as the WNC Wildcats play a double header at Harvey Field.

The Carson Tahoe Health Foundation held its 5th annual HopeFest on Friday, August 21 at the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center. More than $120,000 was raised through sponsorships, and sale of raffle tickets, food and beverage with 100 percent of the proceeds benefit cancer patient support and no-cost lodging at Carson Tahoe’s Merriner Cottages.

What a great day in Carson City! Jazz and Beyond continues with Stereo Galaxy at Third and Carson, an outdoor concert at the new Brewery Art Center Minnesota Street Stage, and a special event at the Governor’s Mansion with the Horse Crazy Cowboy Band. Unleash your inner artist at Comma Coffee’s ‘Paint, Drink, and Be Merry’ or at the Senior Center with a special watercolor painting fundraiser. Join the Elks Lodge 2177 for a Benefit Dinner and Concert at the Governor’s Mansion on Friday, August 14, 2015. Proceeds benefit the Carson High School Culinary Arts Program.

The event features Horse Crazy Cowgirl Band.

The program begins at 4:30 p.m. with a Social Hour and a Cash Bar. Tickets are $30 for concert and $7 for dinner.

Dinner features delicious sirloin burgers, jumbo hot dogs, and a buffet of homemade salads and deserts.

Concert begins at 6 p.m. at the Governor’s Mansion, 606 Mountain Street.

I apologize, Carson City. You have some decisions to make. There is quite a bit going on whether you want something family friendly, adults only, indoors, outdoors, or a combination of it all. The weekly Farmers Market at Third and Curry St. is always a good way to start the weekend. Yummy food, a bounce house for the kids, and beautiful flowers are hard to argue with. Honoring our services members is the theme of this weekend, and there will be a ceremony at Lone Mountain Cemetery at 1 p.m. on Monday.
Current and retired military and their significant others can indulge in a complementary soak at the Carson Hot Springs. Empire Ranch Golf Course is offering a free round of golf with a military I.D., in addition to other specials.
Evergreen Gene’s on North Carson Street hosts their annual picnic on Monday: hamburgers and hot dogs for all.

It’s a Railroad kind of weekend in Carson City. The historic 1885 Glenbrook Steam Engine will be on display Saturday, all steamed up with the Inyo at the Nevada Railroad Museum. You will want to arrive before the dedication ceremony at 11 a.m. to get the best photos. The V and T Steam Engine #25 will be running all weekend if you want to take a ride. It’s also opening weekend for the Virginia and Truckee that departs from the Eastgate Depot for Virginia City. Roundtrips sell out fast, so make sure to get a reservation if you want to go.

Such beautiful weather this week. True to Nevada luck, the chill returns in time for the weekend. Keep your fingers crossed that the storm front brings some precipitation our way. One place it’s seasonally appropriate is the Nevada Artist Association Gallery at the Brewery Arts Center. They will be hosting an artists’ reception for their new Winter Art Show Saturday evening.

'Tis the Season, Carson City! Holiday cheer is in the wind, and we have plenty of wind right now. This weekend is jam-packed with food and toy drives, concerts, and Santa-sightings, so bundle up and have a fun time enjoying our great city.
