Saturday, August 31

Heading into Labor Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next four days, which include guided tours at the Nevada State Museum, movie showings at Mills and Schulz Ranch Park, a school supply car cruise and Bingo fundraiser at the Carson Mall, trash pickup at Lake Tahoe, a Rolling Stones tribute band at Carson Nugget, Virginia City’s Labor Day Parade and more!

As summer winds down, fall events in Tahoe South are ramping up. And the secret’s out: Fall in Tahoe South is one of the most idyllic times to visit with mild weather, off-season lodging rates, more beach space and numerous events starting Labor Day Weekend.

The Carson Nugget in Carson City will present Rudy Columbini and The Unauthorized Rolling Stones, a tribute to the Rolling Stones over the Labor Day weekend.

The concert will take place Sunday, Sept. 1 2019 at 7:30 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom inside the Carson Nugget, 507 North Carson Street.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days, including HopeFest9 on Friday, dirt bike races at Fuji Park, a job fair at Eagle Valley Children's Home, and the final weekend of the Jazz and Beyond festival and Levitt AMP outdoor concert series at the Brewery Arts Center.

The Levitt AMP Carson City summer concert series concludes this Saturday, Aug. 24 with indie alt-rocker powerhouse The Brevet headlining and opening act New Wave Crave.

Coming up on Thursday, August 22, 2019, we can expect continued sunny skies with a daytime near 90. Among upcoming events: Thursday is the final day of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the Carson City Community Center. Take in a film screening and talk to the filmmakers who made them. There's a Polka Dot Powerhouse Carson City lunch connect at Red's Old 395 Grill, plus Food Truck Thursday at Mills Park and a volunteer expo hosted by Leadership Douglas County. There's also a discussion about aviation history and trends at the Nevada State Museum, a Carson City GOP information meeting on Block Chain technology, Jazz and Beyond music festival events and more. Going into its 9th year, Carson Tahoe Health Foundation has brought together musicians and music lovers from throughout Northern Nevada and Lake Tahoe for a free summer concert celebration to raise money for area cancer patients. This Friday, HopeFest9 returns, with international platinum-selling singer-songwriter Eric Hutchinson and the Believers.

Having made it through the first day of school in Carson City, it is onward and upward as we head into Tuesday, August 20, 2019. Events around the area include fitness hikes and bike ride, a free floral design class at Silver City School House, art showings and Congressman Mark Amodei at Casino Fandango. Also featured is the launch of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the community center, a jazz quintet performance at Comma Courtyard and the 115th birthday celebration of Count Basie as part of the Jazz and Beyond music festival. Mile High Jazz Band Association announces that mannequins will be auctioned off by silent auction during Jazz & Beyond concerts. Proceeds benefit Carson City Arts and Culture Coalition's scholarship fund for a student of the arts.

The Nevada Department of Corrections is asking the public's assistance in locating a minimum security inmate who walked away Sunday from the Stewart Conservation Camp on Snyder Avenue in south Carson City.

National and local bands converged on Bowers Mansion Saturday during the 34th annual Bowers Mansion Bluegrass Festival.

Attendees by the hundreds set up low-backed chairs, picnic blankets or simply laid down on the grass as an enticing lineup of bands took the stage.

The Wicked Tinkers headline the Levitt AMP Carson City outdoor Music Series this Saturday at the Brewery Arts Center’s Change Companies Outdoor Amphitheater. Only two shows remain for Carson City concert series and this Saturday's show, you won't want to miss.

Heading into Thursday, August 15, 2019 we can expect hot weather to continue with high temperatures near 100. Among events for the day, there will be a wreath remembrance ceremony for fallen Carson City law enforcement officers at the sheriff's office, a Muscle Powered morning hike, art showings, and a meeting of the Status of Women in Nevada group at the Carson Nugget. As part of the Jazz and Beyond music festival, there will be an outdoor "Woodstock Remembered" concert at Comma Coffee and a music presentation, "All About that Bass" by Scot Marshall and Friends at the Nevada State Museum.

Come see local Carson City musician Kingwhistler open for Americana band The Black Lillies in Virginia City at the historic Piper’s Opera House!

The 34th annual Bowers Mansion Bluegrass Festival is back this weekend from Aug. 16-18 beginning with the Rattlesnake Mountain Boys kicking things off at the Davis Creek Amphitheater at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Bluegrass bands both national and local will convene at the historic mansion along with kids activities, food trucks, games, and more!

Heading into the midweek, Wednesday, August 14, 2019 activities abound around the capital city. There's a new group for writers that meets at the Brewery Arts Center; a salary negotiation workshop at WNC, a chautauqua and author presentations at Dangberg Historic Park. There's also the Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival that will feature the Wesley Orsolic Trio during Wheeled Food Wednesday at the BAC, with jams to continue at Living the Good Life; there's also a real estate workshop for veterans, art showings, salsa dancing and more. An Open Studio Art event featuring Moongirl Studio will be presented by Mile High Jazz Band Association as part of the 2019 Jazz & Beyond Festival, and is supported by grants from the Carson City Cultural Commission, The Nevada Arts Council and National Endowment for the Arts, and private donations.

Heading into Tuesday, August 13, there's a galaxy of events lined up, beginning at midnight with a meteor shower watch party at WNC's Jack C. Davis Observatory. When the sun arrives there's fitness events, a book talk at the Nevada State Library and Archives, outdoor Carson City jazz festival happenings at Comma Coffee and Bob McFadden Plaza, family movie night at the library and more. The movie “Turn it Up” will be celebrating a "homecoming, of sorts" as producer, director, writer and Nevada native Michael Charboneau brings his film to Carson City for the Jukebox International Film Festival on August 20.

"Turn it Up” is a coming of age comedy about six guys from small town anywhere chasing the dreams of rock stardom. Through sheer tenacity and blatant exaggeration, their band Attitude Problem is offered the headlining slot for a day long music festival called, "Can Jam."

Art and flowers made the perfect blend on Saturday during the 16th annual Greenhouse Garden Art Fest in Carson City.

Dozens of vendors sold different forms of art to capture the eyes of attendees while the lush greens, plants and flowers in the Greenhouse served as a comforting background.

The 16th annual Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival took over a sunny Friday evening in the state capital.

A blend of smooth jazz music combined with special art exhibits, demonstrations and art sales brought dozens of attendees to the Bliss and Governor's Mansions.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region to help the next three days breeze by, including the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival, Carson City Library’s End of Summer Learning Challenge, history talks at Mormon Station Park, train rides in Virginia City, a sushi cooking class at Sierra Chef on Sunday and more!

The Brewery Arts Center welcomes Americana favorites from Lake Tahoe, The Dead Winter Carpenters, as the headline act to The Change Companies’ stage for the Levitt AMP Carson City free music series this Saturday, August 10. Acclaimed singer singer-writer Spike McGuire is the opening act.
