Carson City weather: Wind, rain and snow expected with winter storm arriving Friday

A winter storm along with an atmospheric river will impact the Carson City region and Sierra beginning Friday and through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Embracing the area's design and manufacturing community, the Capital City Arts Initiative's [CCAI] exhibition, Industrial Art, is now at the Carson City Library. The show, previously at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery, will be available at the Library through November 19.

The Library will host a public reception for Industrial Art on Friday, October 2, 3:30-5pm in honor of Manufacturer's Month [October]. The Library’s MT1 training room and the Digitorium will also feature students’ manufacturing activities during the open house event.

Firefighting done, Guard helicopters return to Nevada

CARSON CITY - Two Nevada Army Guard helicopters and flight crews that were stationed in Mather Air Force Base near Sacramento, Calif., this week have returned to the Army Aviation Support Facility in Reno without incident.

Vintage aircraft at Carson City Airport Sunday to mark end of WWII

The Carson City Airport will have a number of vintage airplanes on display this Sunday, Aug. 30 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for an event to celebrate the end of World War II.

Cactus Air Force Wings and Wheels Museum will have several pieces of vintage aircraft at the airport. The community is invited to this free event to mark the 70th anniversary of the end to World War II. Among the aircraft is a WWII era TBM avenger fly as well as plenty of other planes and vehicles from both WWII as well as Vietnam.

Senator Square: Carson High students return to school after active summer break

Hello everyone and welcome back to a new year of Carson High School Senator news. While we took a break from this column this summer, we still had plenty of CHS students busy with school activities over the break. Thank you to the community for supporting students who participated in national competitions across the United States. The Senators were very well represented this summer.

Also on some fierce wheels this Sunday are the Carson Victory Rollers. Our roller derby team is hosting a scrimmage and collecting donations of school supplies at the Community Center.

The Pavilion at Mills Park is where you’ll find the annual Carson High Football Boosters Fundraising BBQ. The Quicksilver Dog Agility Trials are always fun to watch, and they’ll be at Fuji Park all weekend. Carson Lanes has family fun indoors and out all day long during their Bowling Blast-off.

The Nevada Division of Forestry encourages owners of unmanned aircraft systems, also known as drones, to keep them on the ground during a fire and let firefighters and aircraft work to stop fires as quickly and safely as possible.

Silver Springs Airport Dedication

Silver Springs, NV – Silver Springs Airport was the recipient of a $700,000 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration and sponsored by Lyon County. With these funds, the Silver Springs airport was able to increase the size of the taxiway and rehabilitate the runway.

These two improvements are vital to the overall master plan to the airport and further enables economic growth and aviation needs to the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center.

Agencies urge public not to fly drones over or near wildfires after issues at 2 SoCal fires

Two instances in the past week where people flew drones that disrupted firefighting operations in Southern California has prompted federal, state and local wildfire managers to again urge the public not to fly the unmanned aircraft systems within or near wildfires.

Carson City Airport Announces 2015 Open House Event

With hopes of generating enthusiasm among young people and using themes of robotics, aviation and aerospace to do it, Carson City Airport's annual open house returns to the skies above the capital city on Saturday, June 20, after a year hiatus.

More than 6,000 visitors attended the event in 2013. This year’s open house, which runs from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., is free to the public. Activities will feature interactive displays, flybys, plane and helicopter demonstrations, robotics demonstrations, food and beverages, bounce house and many more family activities.
