The Carson City School District has partnered with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada to house a new Pre-K (preschool) classroom at the Carson City clubhouse located at 1870 Russell Way. Twenty students between the ages of 4 and 5 will receive full-day instruction this school year Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Hazy conditions around Carson City and the region is due to the smoke from several fires in Nevada and California that continue to burn Sunday with thousands of firefighting personnel battling the blazes.

Promoting Carson City’s paranormal, improving blighted spaces and creating mountain bike destinations are among the projects the Carson City Visitors Bureau is lining up with help from Travel Nevada.

Congratulations to the Class of 2017 at Carson High School. Though the school year is concluded, teachers will be talking about this class for some time to come. According to CHS government teacher Angila Golik, “This is an amazing class of great kids, a huge accomplishment since there are close to 500 seniors in the class.”

Memorial Day weekend is the kick off for the summer, and traditionally it is a very busy weekend on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. Forest visitors can enjoy biking, camping, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, picnicking and many more recreations activities this summer.

Western Nevada College’s 2017 Jump Start graduating class includes 89 students representing Churchill County, Dayton, Fernley, Pyramid Lake, Silver Stage and Virginia City high schools, as well as Oasis Academy and Nevada Virtual Academy.

Western Nevada College is graduating one of its largest classes ever, with 551 students graduating with 592 degrees and certificates during a commencement ceremony today, Monday, May 22 at the Marv Teixeira Pavilion in Carson City.

The weather peaked at the perfect time for a season-changing first round matchup in Galena between the Carson Senators and Galena Grizzlies. I am a resident of Carson City’s West side for almost three decades and Friday morning my brother in law made me aware of a cat stuck in a 40 foot tall tree. Immediately, I thought this animal will need to be helped and will not be able to come down on its own.

Big Sam's Funky Nation is headed to Crystal Bay for a free concert in the Crystal Bay Casino's Crown Room on Friday, Oct. 14 beginning at 10 p.m.

Three were arrested Thursday for felony suspicion of burglary and other charges after deputies discovered a break-in at a car wash coin machine, which led to an investigation that resulted in the discovery of stolen items from several burglaries between Carson City, Sparks and Reno, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
