Happy Saturday Carson City! I hope you’ve all been driving safely on the icy roads, and I also hope you enjoyed the bit of sun we got yesterday! It’ll be another beautiful winter day, and say goodbye to the snow in the next few days because highs will be around 50 degrees for the next week.

Greenhouse Project dinner fundraiser, comedy, live music and more: Carson City region readies for upcoming weekend

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. The Union will host a dining fundraiser for the Greenhouse Project on Friday, and artist Jakota Wass performs at Bella Vita Bistro. The 43rd annual Wild Sheep Show will be held at the Reno-Sparks Convention. Comedian Marc Yaffee headlines the Carson Comedy Club on Saturday with much more in store for the weekend! Nevada State Library lunch series Tuesday features Pulitzer-nominated environmental writer Michael Branch

Writer, humorist and environmentalist Michael Branch will discuss his works this Tuesday, Jan. 14 at the Nevada State Library and Archives in Carson City as part of its Brown Bag luncheon series. Branch is the author of several published books, one of which is the Pulitzer-Prize nominated John Muir’s Last Journey: South to the Amazon and East to Africa.

It was in January of 1870 when the doors of the Carson City Mint were opened to the public by its first superintendent — and Carson City’s founder — Abe Curry.

Free fitness and outdoor adventures available for young people living with cancer, MS

Carson City School District hires Director of Student Support Services

Christine Lenox, Ed.D., has been appointed as director of Student Support Services for the Carson City School District. She will begin her role with the district after it is announced at the next school board meeting Jan. 14, 2020.

Annual Carson City Christmas Tree Lighting, Silver and Snowflakes Festival, happening tonight

The biggest holiday celebration in Carson City, the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights, is scheduled to bring holiday cheer to the masses on Friday, Dec. 6.

The Silver and Snowflakes Festival has been the official beginning of the holiday season for years, with the lighting of the great Christmas tree on Capitol grounds. Keep an eye out for Santa Claus, the Grinch, Max the dog, and Carson City's 5th graders who will be singing their hearts out while the tree is lit!
