Photos: Hungry bear scopes out Snap-On tool distribution center in Carson City
A large bear was seen Saturday night in Carson City roaming the Snap-On Tools Distribution Center in the 1800 block of Fairview Drive.
Bears continue to move down the hill from Lake Tahoe in search of food to store fat for winter. Bears will use any source of food to build up those fat reserves, according to the Nevada Department of Wildlife. While human food sources should not fall into this category, unsecured attractants in neighborhoods, including garbage, fruit trees, bird feeders and more provide bears with an easy meal.
Bears in western Nevada begin to hibernate, or enter torpor as it’s more accurately referred to, in mid-November. But male bears do not typically go to den until mid-December, NDOW says.
Therefore, the agency asks for everyone to remain vigilant to deter bears from their property. Bears easily travel irrigation ditches and natural ravines.
