Allegiant Airlines ending service between Reno and Las Vegas
Allegiant Airlines said Friday it will end nonstop service between Las Vegas and Reno, leaving just two air carriers providing service between Nevada’s largest cities.
In an email statement to The Nevada Independent, a spokesman for Las Vegas-based Allegiant said services at Reno-Tahoe International Airport will end Jan. 7. Allegiant offered two flights a week between the destinations.
Allegiant spokesman Andrew Porrello said the decision was unavoidable.
“When assigning equipment and crew throughout our network, our planning team must consider a variety of factors, including demand and available crew to staff the flights as well as external factors including competitive capacity and costs,” he said.
Southwest Airlines, the largest air carrier at Harry Reid International Airport, currently offers 10 round-trip flights a day between Las Vegas and Reno. Spirit Airlines has 12 flights a week.
