Carson City unemployment in November falls to 5.3 percent
Carson City's unemployment rate edged down to 5.3 percent in November, according to figures released Tuesday by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.
Figures show Carson City was expected to lose 100 jobs due to seasonal movements but actually gained 100 that resulted in a seasonally adjusted increase in employment of 200 for the area. The capital city's October unemployment rate was 5.5 percent.
Carson City has gained 300 jobs since this time last year. a growth rate of 1.1 percent. Figures show 400 service-providing jobs were gained while 100 goods-producing jobs were lost, according to DETR.
Nevada's two other metro areas, Reno/Sparks and Las Vegas, also saw a decrease in November unemployment. Reno/Sparks area decreased to 4.2 percent and Las Vegas fell to 5.1 percent.
All three metro areas saw job growth, said Bill Anderson, chief economist for the Research and Analysis Bureau of Nevada’s Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.
Las Vegas added a seasonally adjusted 900 jobs, while Reno/Sparks realized a seasonally adjusted employment gain of 800. Over-the-year job gains were also positive for the state and all three metropolitan areas. Nevada gained 34,700 jobs over the year, a growth rate of 2.7 percent, while seeing the unemployment rate fall to 5.2 percent.
“The metro areas followed the statewide trend in unemployment in November,” Anderson said. “They continue to show positive signs of recovery with good news being reported in all economic barometers. Over the year, unemployment is down statewide and in the metro areas, which is a better indicator of the labor market than monthly statistics.”
