Carson City's unemployment relatively unchanged from last September
The September 2017 unemployment rate in Carson City is up 0.1 of a percentage point over the month to 4.8 percent, but down 0.8 of a percentage point over the year, according to figures released Tuesday by the state's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.
Nevada’s metro areas in September figures varied but are down overall from a year ago. A flat growth rate in Carson City resulted in employment numbers remaining unchanged from last September. Service-providers and goods producers each gained 100 jobs in the region before adjustments were made for seasonality.
Reno’s unemployment rate is at 4 percent, down 0.1 of a percentage point from August and down 0.6 of a percentage point from last year.
In Las Vegas, the unemployment rate stayed the same from August at 5.2 percent, but is down 0.4 of a percentage point from September of last year.
For 13 consecutive months, unemployment rates have declined on an over-the-year basis in all 17 of the state’s counties, said Bill Anderson, chief economist for Nevada’s Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.
Rate declines ranged from 1.8 percentage points (Lander) to 0.2 of a percentage point (Esmeralda). All counties remained at or below 6.5 percent unemployment in September.
“The metro area economic indicators continue to follow statewide positive trends,” Anderson said. “As reported last week, the statewide unemployment rate stands at 4.9 percent. Employers continue to add jobs. Despite a slight uptick in new jobs statewide, Nevada’s largest population centers saw mixed job growth in September.”
