September unemployment rate in Nevada remains at 4.9 percent
Nevada's unemployment rate in September held steady from August at 4.9 percent, according to figures released Wednesday by the state's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.
Nevada added a seasonally adjusted 200 jobs in September. The 4.9 percent rate is a half percentage point from the same time last year.
“All indicators continue to point to signs of economic improvement in the Silver State,” said Gov. Brian Sandoval. “More than 230,000 jobs have been added, weekly wages are up and the jobless rate is down nearly 9 percentage points since the recession. I am pleased with Nevada’s continued resilience.”
Year-to-date, the number of unemployed in Nevada has decreased by 13,500 versus the same period last year, while the labor force has expanded by 17,200, said Bill Anderson, chief economist for Nevada’s Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.
“Whether due to population growth or residents re-entering the workforce, the growing labor force limits downward pressure on the unemployment rate as more Nevadans search for work,” Anderson said. “Nevertheless the Silver State continues to fare well as employers continue to add jobs to the labor market.”
