Carson City man arrested for DUI, Hit and Run with death; dropped child off before returning to scene of crime
26-year-old Reid Jensen Williamson was arrested on DUI causing death and hit and run causing death after allegedly fleeing the scene after striking a pedestrian Thursday evening.
The crash took place just after 5 p.m. at S. Stewart and Little Lane, and Williamson was detained at Little Lane and Parkland Avenue just before 6 p.m.
According to the arrest report, Williamson was parked on Little Lane and Parkland, and waved down deputies as they were en route to the scene.
When deputies stopped, Williamson reportedly told them “it was me.”
Williamson seemed “nervous and very apologetic,” according to the report. He said he struck someone in the crosswalk on Little and Stewart before he continued driving on back roads to get home.
He stated he did not see the pedestrian crossing the road, and he said he dropped off his child at home with his wife because he “did not want his son to be in the vehicle after what happened,” according to the report.
He said he immediately called his mother because he was scared, and while on the phone, he decided to return to the scene because he is “not a bad guy.”
Deputies noted while speaking to Williamson that he had red, watery eyes and an odor of alcohol coming from his breath. Williamson admitted to having “some drinks” at a local bar from noon to four p.m. including a shot of whiskey and four Topo Chicos.
He provided a PBT which resulted in a .036 BAC. Williamson continued to ask if the subject was okay, the report noted.
Deputies placed Williamson under arrest and transported him to the Carson City Jail without incident.
On Thursday, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong relayed to Carson Now that the victim had been flown by Care Flight to Renown where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Bail: $80,000
