WNC Observatory Offers Lunar Eclipse Viewing Sunday Evening
Western Nevada College invites the public to view a total lunar eclipse this Sunday evening at the college’s Jack C. Davis Observatory in Carson City. A variety of telescopes will be available for viewing.
Dr. Tom Herring, the observatory’s director, will host the free viewing party and answer questions, starting at 6 p.m.
“The penumbral shadow will already be on the moon when it rises around 7 p.m., and the eclipse will reach totality at approximately 7:47 p.m.,” Herring said. The event lasts until 10:30 pm.
Northern Nevadans won’t be able to see another lunar eclipse in this area until January 2019.
The observatory is located at 2699 Van Patten Avenue on the northern end of the Carson City Campus.
