Carson City unemployment falls to 6 percent in August
Unemployment in Carson City fell to 6 percent in August, down from 6.5 percent in July, according to figures released Tuesday by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.
Carson City has added 300 jobs since August 2015, a growth rate of 1.1 percent for the year. Service-providing industries gained 600 jobs over the period while goods-producing industries lost 200, according to DETR figures.
Unemployment rates also fell in Reno, which is at 4.9 percent for the month, and Las Vegas, also 6 percent.
“The labor market in the Silver State continues to show positive signs of recovery,” said Bill Anderson chief economist for Nevada’s Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation. “Unemployment rates are down across all 17 counties in Nevada, while we continue to see employers adding jobs throughout the state.”
Las Vegas employment increased by 5,300 jobs and Reno/Sparks gained a seasonally adjusted 1,000 jobs. This growth translates to 26,400 new jobs in Las Vegas year over year. Reno/Sparks employment grew at 5.4 percent over the year, amounting to 11,400 new jobs.
