Nevada PUC promotes Lifeline Awareness Week Sept. 10-16
CARSON CITY — The Public Utilities Commission is promoting Lifeline Awareness Week, Sept. 10-16. Lifeline is a government benefit program supported by the Universal Service Fund that provides a discount on phone service for qualifying low-income consumers.
The Lifeline program helps to ensure eligible consumers have the opportunities and security that telephone service affords, including being able to connect to jobs, family and emergency services.
Staying connected to local resources and emergency services are vital to low-income and elderly residents, say state regulators.
The PUCN wants residents to “stay connected” and is reaching out to those who need phone service but can’t afford it. During “Lifeline Awareness Week” the PUCN will promote the Lifeline Assistance Program which offers discounts to qualified residents.
Under the federal Lifeline program, telephone customers who participate in or are eligible for certain public assistance programs, or meet certain household income limits, are entitled to receive a monthly discount for home or wireless service.
Nevada residents who believe they may be eligible for a discount should contact their telephone service provider or visit www.lifelinesupport.org/ls to determine program eligibility.
