It is so hot, even the dragonflies are getting sunburns, as captured in this photo by Carson Now reader Scott McDaniel.
An Excessive Heat Warning and Heat Advisory continue Sunday into Monday evening for the region. The Excessive Heat Warning is for western Nevada, where high temperatures of above 100 are expected.
The Heat Advisory is for northeast California, the Lake Tahoe region, and Mono County below 7,000 feet, where high temperatures of 88-95 degrees are expected.
The National Weather Service in Reno says dangerously hot conditions with high temperatures of 102-109 degrees is expected in valley locations Sunday and mid 90s for higher elevations such as Virginia City. Lows Sunday night into Monday morning will also be near or above record warm levels.
The warning area includes the Greater Reno, Carson City and Carson Valley areas of Douglas County, Lyon and Mineral counties, Western Nevada Basin and Range including Pyramid Lake.
Extreme heat will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities, the weather service advises. It recommends rescheduling activities, recognizing heat illness, drink plenty of fluids, take frequent breaks in A/C, and use sun protection.
Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
