Carson City area weather: Thunderstorm chances through midweek and then the heat kicks in
Winding down the last days of June will bring seasonably cool conditions through the middle of the week with daily afternoon and evening thunderstorm chances for western Nevada and Carson City region, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
Instead of the threat of rain, forecasters say the pattern is about to break and change will kick in. A ridge of high pressure will bring significantly warmer, drier conditions by the end of next week and into the start of July. The warm up will also bring rises to all area waterways.
Have you been anxiously awaiting waiting for summer weather finally start? NWS forecasters say confidence continues to increase in the ridge developing over the western US will arrive by the end of the work week, which will bring above-average temperatures to western Nevada, Carson City area and the Sierra, and limit chances for precipitation.
Temperatures are expected to reach the upper-90s for western Nevada valleys, perhaps even meeting the 100 degree mark in some areas, and the mid-80s for Sierra communities by Saturday.
Models show a 20 percent chance for Reno and some western Nevada valleys to see temperature of 100 degrees or higher on Saturday, which would be the first 100+ degree day of the year. Forecasters advise the warmer temperatures will lead to rises on area rivers, creeks, and streams as high elevation snowmelt accelerates. So watch for that.
In the meantime, don't forget to hydrate, check your air conditioning equipment and be sure to wear sunscreen when outdoors. Summer weather is on its way.
