Dust storm moving into western, central Nevada prompts National Weather Service warning
The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Dust Storm Warning until 8:30 p.m. Thursday for eastern Carson City, Douglas County, Lyon County, Storey County, southern Washoe County, western Churchill County, northeast Mineral and southwestern Pershing County.
Doppler radar indicated at 6:29 p.m. that there is a dust storm extended from Lovelock to Fallon to Schurz moving to the west at 40 mph. The dust storm brings less than a quarter mile visibility with strong wind in excess of 50 mph.
The weather service advised the dust storm may create dangerous travel conditions due to zero visibility potential. Motorists along I-80 between Lovelock and Reno, Highway 50 and Highway 95 between Carson City and Fallon may be impacted.
Locations impacted include: Carson City, Fallon, Lovelock, Lahontan Reservoir, Virginia City, Fernley, Dayton, Johnson Lane, Yerington, Virginia Peak, Silver Springs, Derby Dam, Trinity Junction, Mason, Stagecoach, Wabuska, Hazen, Stillwater, Nixon and Fort Churchill Station.
If caught in dust, pull off the road and turn off all lights. The weather service advises to delay travel if at all possible.
