Carson theater group Proscenium Players, Inc. announces encore performances of 'Gaslight'
Gaslight, a gripping story of betrayal, despair, deception and manipulation, returns to the Carson City the first weekend in July. Carson City theater group the Proscenium Players, Inc. first performed the play in February of this year.
The encore performances take place in the Bob Boldrick Theatre in the Carson City Community Center. Performances are Friday and Saturday, July 7-8 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, July 9 at 2 p.m.
Director Steven Segal is excited to once again direct this encore performance.
“The response to our first run was overwhelmingly positive, we broke numerous records even during record breaking storms,” he said. “We saw multiple parties show up for multiple nights and it really proved to us we have something very special here. It was very humbling.”
Gaslight is a dark tale of a marriage based on deceit and trickery with a husband committed to driving his wife insane in order to steal from her. The plot becomes even more twisted with the discovery of an unsolved murder in their home.
Segal says it’s an intense story.
“You have a manipulating, psychopathic partner taking advantage of the love, care and trust from his wife. It’s a heartbreaking drama with an equally intense ending," he said.
While written in 1938 by Patrick Hamilton, the script still resonates today. “It sends the message of never giving up, to always believe in yourself, and to carrying on even through the darkest of time,” Segal explains. “This to me is such a perfect display of intensity, mystery and triumph, it’s just a beautiful story and script.”
Gaslight is intended for mature audiences. Tickets are $20 and available at www.carsontheater.com.
