Carson City Farmer’s Market welcomes new vendors, gearing up for June start
We are just shy of a month out from the Farmer’s Market Season in Carson City, which begins June 10 and runs through Sept. 30.
This year, the Farmer’s Market is moving to Mill’s Park, to take up shop in the Marv Teixeira Pavilion.
“We’ve received great feedback on our new location,” Market Manager Breana Coons said.
Benefits of the new location, Coons said, are many, including a fully shaded market, grass for playing and picnicking, the nearby Mills Park train rides, and permanent restrooms.
So far there are 65 vendors registered for the season, including 11 new vendors ranging from micro greens to mushrooms, crepes to charcuterie, seafood and artisans.
“We have some old-time vendors returning this year, including Do Drop In selling their amazing waffles, and Butler Meats selling their house-made sausages,” Coons said.
The market offers a variety of meats and produce, from standards like eggs, beef, chicken, tomatoes, carrots, corn, beets, potatoes, to the more exotic like specialty mushrooms, bison, premade pies, spicy jams, dog treats, and more.
Buying local is important, according to Coons, not only for the customer and the vendors, but the community as a whole.
“Buying local helps keep family farms viable, and keeps dollars in our community,” Coons wrote. “A healthy community is a sustainable community.”
The market is still searching for volunteers to help make this season the best yet.
Volunteer opportunities include:
- Community engagement, conducting surveys, counting visitors
- Market setup-tear down
- Photography/Videography
- Kids Booth Organizer
- Vendor/Customer Parking Attendant
- Information Booth Assistant
- Trash collection, keep restroom clean
- Contribute articles for our newsletter
- and more!
Those interested in volunteering, which can be as few or as many days as you’d like, can apply here.
The market takes place every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Mills Park is located at 1111 E. William Street.
“Bring your whole family, picnic set-up and enjoy your morning in the park!” Coons said.
