Nowruz 'New Year' celebration and feast happening Saturday in Carson City to benefit Veterans Healing Camp
Veterans Healing Camp is thrilled to announce its upcoming, “back to nostalgic Fabulous 50's” themed for 8th Annual Nowruz “New day” and new year Celebration Feast happening Saturday, April 13. All are cordially invited to a night filled with nostalgia and joy.
From 5 to 11 p.m. at the Casino Fandango Grand Ballroom in Carson City. There is no dress code requirement. Your military uniform, or casual ware is just fine, or slick back your hair, roll up your pack of cigarettes into your T-shirt sleeve or dress grinchy and come do the twist.
Please sponsor a table or invite a veteran to your table for this unforgettable night that features great food, live music, dancing, photo booth, silent auction, door prizes and more.
The celebration begins at 5:00 p.m. The Northern Nevada Veterans Coalition Color Guard leading with commander Rick Rose, will present the flag of our nation as local bagpipe artist Sean Cummings performs a beautiful version of Amazing Grace and invocation by Bob Sargent.
We honor our Veterans for their service as each service branch theme song is played on the bagpipe. The delicious dinner buffet feast starts at 6 p.m. and is served with a selection of great food and dessert. Then dance away and showcase your best jive, do the limbo, or twist and with Michael J’s (Army veteran) Better Daze and his band.
Nowruz means “New Day." It is the ancient Persian “New Year” celebrated since 1700 B.C. Nowruz is the time to gather with friends and family to eat, drink, and celebrate life together.
A central part of our celebration is the traditional Nowruz fire jump (weather permitting.) The fire jump symbolism is to forgive and forget, put the past behind, and to invite health, happiness, and prosperity, releasing all the negative events from last year and start with new life and beginnings, as the party continues into the night.
Veterans Healing camp is local grassroots nonprofit headquartered at 1775 E. US-50, in the heart of Silver Springs. Our dedication and mission is to provide a safe place for fun, activities, and fellowship for our veteran community to make a successful transition from military to civilian life.
