Carson City unemployment rate falls to 6.7 percent in February
February unemployment in Carson City fell to 6.7 percent from January’s 7.7 percent, according to figures released Tuesday by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.
The unemployment rates in the state’s other metro areas also saw declines, with 5.3 percent in the Reno/Sparks area, down from January’s 6.2 percent. In Las Vegas, February unemployment fell to 5.6 percent, down from January’s 6.5 percent. As reported last week, the statewide unemployment rate fell to 5.9 percent, the lowest it has been since April 2008.
“The labor market conditions in the metropolitan statistical areas continue to follow the statewide pattern, showing favorable improvement,” said Bill Anderson, chief economist for Nevada’s Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation. “Similar to the statewide status, the metro areas all gained employment over the month. Additionally, the unemployment rates dipped below 9 percent in all of the Silver State’s counties in February.”
Las Vegas experienced the highest nominal growth, adding 22,800 jobs over the year, while the Reno/Sparks’ area increased employment by 6,100.
