Sierra Nevada Forums to discuss Carson City road funding at Brewery Arts Center
The Sierra Nevada Forums in partnership with the American Association of University Women Capital (NV) Branch and the League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada will host “The Truth About Carson City Road Funding: Straight from the Horse’s Mouth” on April 9, 2024 at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King Street in Carson City.
Doors open at 5:30 pm and the program starts at 6 pm. The Nevada Appeal is a co-sponsor of the forums and provides video recordings of the programs. This is Sierra Nevada Forums’ eighth season of providing free community forums on topics of current interest.
The April 9 forum will feature a discussion on how Carson City prioritizes and funds road maintenance projects and the potential implications for local neighborhoods. Carson City is currently facing an estimated annual shortfall of $21 million to maintain the neighborhood streets that do not qualify for federal grants. To close this funding gap, city officials are exploring various funding options including a new quarter cent transportation sales tax and a city-wide general improvement district (GID).
The panel moderator will be Greg Novak, member of the Regional Transportation Commission. The presenters are Chris Martinovich, PE, Transportation Manager for Carson City and Darren Schultz, PE, Public Works Director for Carson City. Each presenter will speak for about 15 minutes, with time reserved for written questions submitted by members of the audience.
The next forum is May 14, 2024 and will focus on the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) and Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) funding in Nevada. Speakers include Nevada State Treasurer Zach Conine, Sondra Rosenberg, Deputy Director of Administration, Nevada Department of Transportation and Lucas Ingvoldstad, State Director for Nevada, USDA Rural Development.
