Lyon County man jailed for allegedly stealing skid steer from Dayton construction site
A 42-year-old man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly stealing a construction skid steer vehicle, according to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office.
George Shepard, a Lyon County resident, was taken into custody following an investigation that began after deputies were called to Enterprise Way in Dayton at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday regarding the theft of a skid steer from a construction site, according to a LCSO news release.
Deputies identified the suspect and requested the assistance of the Lyon County Sheriff's Office, Special Investigations Unit (SIU) to assist in the investigation. Deputies and SIU detectives responded to Shepard's residence in Silver Springs where further evidence was obtained linking Shepard to the theft, the release states.
A short time later, detectives located Shepard's vehicle traveling into the desert, just east of his residence. Deputies surveilled Shepard as he traveled into the desert towards an open sand pit area, where Shepard was contacted and ultimately detained, the release states.
A short time later, Shepard led deputies to the stolen skid steer. Further evidence was located on scene and in Shepard's possession linking him to the theft, according to the news release.
Shepard was arrested for suspicion of grand larceny of a motor vehicle and possession of stolen property. Shepard was booked into the Lyon County Jail with a bail of $11,141.00.
